Daejeon Japanese restaurant for pork jowl rice bowls: Choi Dining

I visited Choi Dining, known as a great place to eat near Hyundai Outlet in Gwanpyeong-dong, Daejeon, for a weekday lunch.

How busy is it at lunchtime?

There were so many diners between 11:30 and 12:30 that I couldn't eat here on my previous visit and had to leave 😭 This time, I came near the end of lunch hours.

The interior is compact but full of charm, and the decor gives the restaurant a lovely feeling as though you're traveling. When work has been exhausting lately, visiting a pretty place like this brings that little burst of happiness and lifts your mood.

Choi Dining's menu and set options

There are set menus, too. You can choose a Couple Set or Family Set according to the size of your party.

Seeing the secret behind the chewy pork jowl made me think I absolutely had to order something with it. There are ades and soft drinks, but they also have cold draft beer.

There is a wide variety of rice and noodle dishes. With so many options to suit different tastes, it is the perfect place to share several dishes together.

What the dontoro-don pork jowl rice bowl was like

The dontoro-don looked appetizing right away, and the egg yolk on top really whetted my appetite. The owner who brought out the food was also so, so kind!

It is hard to go wrong with the combination of soy sauce and pork jowl, and the fresh vegetables made it chewy, tender, and perfectly seasoned!!

Eel and shrimp tempura futomaki

The next dish is one we have been really into lately. Futomaki (large sushi roll)!!! It looks amazing, right? What more is there to say!

I chose this futomaki with shrimp tempura and eel because it was my first time trying it. It was too large to eat in one bite, but cutting it in half, combining all the ingredients, and dipping it in the sauce was absolutely delicious 👍

The crispy texture made every bite even more enjoyable. It also had a refreshing quality, and there are several types of futomaki, so try choosing one that suits your taste.

Is perilla oil gat soba good for children, too?

The perilla oil gat soba looks healthy even at first glance! Each time you mix the soba, the nutty aroma of perilla oil fills your nose.

Even looking at the menu makes your mouth water because the display is so pretty. It is not overly strong, so I think it would be good for children, too! Please note that this dish does not come with broth.

When you want a variety of dishes in Gwanpyeong-dong

There is a reason it is so popular at lunchtime. There are lots of restaurants around, but this is one that satisfies at both lunch and dinner. Every dish was tasty, and the staff were kind!!
