Samseong Station Korean restaurant: nakji bossam value set for two
In short
Obongjip Samseong Branch is a Korean restaurant near Samseong Station and COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, serving spicy octopus stir-fry and boiled pork belly on one table. Two diners ordered the nakji bossam value set, ate the tender bossam and smoky octopus stir-fry, and added a bowl of rice to mix into the leftover sauce. The only regret at Obongjip Samseong was learning that the self-serve bar refills seaweed soup only after the meal was nearly finished.

Is the nakji bossam value set enough food for two?
Obongjip is a place I think of now and then because you can eat octopus stir-fry and bossam (boiled pork belly) together. This time we didn't hesitate and went straight for the nakji bossam value set.
Since it's the value set, I wondered how the portion would be for two people, but it turned out to be just the right amount to leave us satisfyingly full.

Banchan side dishes and a big bowl of seaweed soup
Not long after ordering, they brought out a tray piled high with banchan (side dishes). There were quite a lot of varieties, which made it fun to try one at a time. The stir-fried Vienna sausages are a total kids'-favorite hit.
Every time I come to Obongjip, I turn into a seaweed soup fiend. They serve it in a huge bowl instead of a regular soup bowl, so it's satisfying every time. If you order delivery, you only get a single serving, sigh. Since I love seaweed soup, I always eat happily whenever I have a meal at Obongjip, haha.
That day too, I took a spoonful of seaweed soup first — mild and delicious. While waiting for the main dishes, we kept picking at the banchan one by one, and before we knew it the table was completely full.

How did the octopus stir-fry and bossam pork taste?
The nakji bossam finally arrived! Since it's a set that lets you eat octopus stir-fry and bossam together, it made choosing a menu easy for the two of us.

The bossam meat was tender and soft, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy. Eating it together with the pickled radish is absolutely delicious.

The octopus stir-fry had that proper smoky wok-fire flavor~~! With the spicy sauce plus that smokiness, my chopsticks just kept going back for more.

Adding a bowl of rice to mix into the octopus sauce
The octopus stir-fry sauce really calls for rice. So in the end we... ended up ordering extra rice too. They brought that out heaping in a big bowl too, haha.

At first we only planned to eat the set, but seeing the octopus stir-fry sauce, we couldn't not order rice!! In the end we added rice and mixed it into the octopus stir-fry.

Octopus stir-fry really is best eaten with rice! As the spicy, smoky sauce soaked into the rice, I couldn't stop scooping. Anyone who's had Obongjip's octopus stir-fry will know exactly what I mean. At first I thought the set alone would be enough, but in the end we added rice and cleaned every last bit.

Seaweed soup refills at the Obongjip Samseong self-serve bar
Right as we were finishing up, I noticed a self-serve bar and went over to check it out... and wait, you could refill the seaweed soup?
I'm obsessed with seaweed soup here!

I wanted more seaweed soup while eating but felt a bit awkward asking the staff, so I just held back... but it turns out you could just help yourself at the self-serve bar! If I'd known earlier I would have gone back for another bowl — such a shame...

Next time I visit Obongjip Samseong Station branch, I'm checking the self-serve bar first thing...!!!!

Free plum juice beside the register
After finishing and paying, I noticed plum juice set up right next to the register.

Cold and delicious.

What to remember when visiting Obongjip Samseong as a pair
The nakji bossam value set we had this time had a generous enough portion for two, and being able to enjoy the smoky octopus stir-fry alongside tender bossam together made for a satisfying combination. Above all, the octopus stir-fry sauce practically demands rice, so adding extra rice was a decision I didn't regret at all.
With several banchan coming out and a self-serve bar available, it was great for adding extra bits and pieces while eating. Especially if you're a seaweed soup lover like me, definitely remember that refills are available at the self-serve bar!!!
If you're looking for a filling meal near Samseong Station, or searching for octopus stir-fry or octopus bossam near Samseong Station, head to Obongjip~!!
