Cockle bibimbap with squid bossam for three in Gangnam: Yangeunine

On a day I was starving after a wedding photoshoot in Seoul, the squid bossam at Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch was exactly my taste. Soft yet chewy squid plus bossam (boiled pork wrap) with zero gamey smell! As someone who loves bossam, this hit the spot haha.

With the photoshoot done, I wanted something actually delicious rather than just something to eat. That's when I found this spot near Samseong Station — I have to talk about this squid and bossam.

What three people order at Yangeunine: medium squid bossam and cockle bibimbap

At Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch, we ordered the squid bossam medium size along with cockle bibimbap to share between the three of us. A menu with both bossam and squid was hard to pass up, given how much I usually like bossam.

The basic side dishes were laid out well, and there were plenty of tasty options at the self-serve corner too.

With bossam laid out across the plate and squid served together with vegetables and sides, it looked photo-worthy too. We'd just finished a shoot, so I figured — shouldn't the food get a photo too, lol.

How is the squid? Tender but still springy

The squid in Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch's squid bossam was easy to chew — soft but with a chewy texture that made it delicious. Not the kind of chewy that keeps your jaw busy, though. It's soft to bite into but still has that distinct squid springiness. If it had been only soft, it would've been a letdown, but this gave you something fun to chew on.

Oh, this is nice 🦑 On a tired day after a photoshoot, my jaw doesn't need to work hard today too, lol. Fun to chew but easy to eat — suited me perfectly.

Why bossam lovers like Yangeunine's pork: no gamey smell

I liked that there wasn't a hint of gamey smell while eating the bossam. I genuinely love bossam, but liking a food doesn't mean every version of it is good. Especially when the meat smell is off-putting, it's disappointing — but at Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch there was none of that, and it was delicious. It had that satisfaction you expect when you're craving bossam!

Given the name 'squid bossam,' you might expect to only remember the squid, but the bossam held its own too. As a bossam fan, I had nothing to be disappointed about haha.

The vegetables and side dishes served alongside were also great. It wasn't just meat sitting there alone — having things to pair it with made eating a plate of bossam even more enjoyable.

Bossam with kimchi... this really is an unbeatable combo. It's impossible for it not to taste good, and it actually does taste good lol. The vegetables that come with it are seriously insane too.

The dried radish strips and pollack roe salad were also amazing. The pollack roe was so chewy and delicious that I, who barely eats it normally, had two servings!!

Eating kimchi, squid, and bossam together, I was chewing right up to the point of passing out. Be careful!!

Cockle bibimbap served with rice and cockles separate, in a generous portion

The cockle bibimbap arrived and I was a bit surprised lol — rice separate, cockles separate. But the portion is seriously huge lol.

Look at these cockles!! How delicious do they look? Genuinely fresh, and the cockle aroma with the vegetables is a perfect match!!!!

Self-serve side dish corner and spicy dried radish green soup

At Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch, you can grab more side dishes from the self-serve corner, and there's radish green soup too, which was nice and spicy. Being able to help yourself to more of the sides you like was a plus — the side dishes that come with bossam matter quite a bit too.

And the radish green soup was in charge of the spicy kick. Eating squid and bossam and then having some broth alongside — ah, this is the kind of thing that should be there too. I came for bossam and ended up appreciating the soup too, lol.

Does Yangeunine work for drinks? Dishes that suit soju and makgeolli

The squid bossam was delicious as a meal, and I thought it would also suit being a drinking snack. There were indeed many people around us drinking. We had to drive and were tired after the shoot, so we skipped alcohol. Still, seeing people nearby having a drink, I could kind of understand why this dish pairs so well with alcohol haha.
