Sashimi omakase set at Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch

Why we chose Namhae Fish for a Jamsilsaenae group dinner

There's more to think about when picking a group dinner spot in Jamsilsaenae than you'd expect. The sashimi has to be good, the seating has to fit everyone, and ideally there's something for people who don't eat raw fish too. On that front, Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch suited a group wanting a full meal, not just a plate of sashimi and done.

The sashimi omakase set is ₩45,000 per person as listed, and it's for two or more people.

Sashimi, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), sushi, shabu-shabu, steamed skate, yurinji and pasta all come out, so the table fills up nicely without adding extra dishes.

What is the seating and atmosphere like at Namhae Fish?

Inside Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch, the tone is dark wood overall with soft lighting. Not too bright and chaotic, but not overly dim for a sashimi restaurant either.

There are several tables with partitions in between, so it works fine for a quiet meal for two, and it also felt comfortable for a group of 3-4. If you're looking for a Jamsilsaenae group dinner spot, this place fits better for around four people enjoying sashimi and drinks together than for a large crowd.

The sashimi omakase set: what arrives first

Pre-meal dish served as the first course

We ordered the sashimi omakase set. It started with pre-meal porridge, then mulhoe, futomaki, and two pieces of salmon sushi came out in order. Instead of everything arriving at once, the food came out course by course, which made it easy to eat slowly over drinks.

A bowl of tangy mulhoe
Mulhoe

The mulhoe had sashimi, vegetables and a tangy sauce mixed together. It really woke up my appetite before the big sashimi spread. Cold and sour, perfect as a first course.

The futomaki packed several ingredients into one bite, which made it fun to eat, and the salmon sushi went down smooth. Even at this point I was already fairly impressed, and then the sashimi set arrived and completely changed the mood at the table.

How much variety is in the sashimi spread?

Red drum, mackerel, salmon, yellowtail, hairtail, sea bass, red seabream, flounder, steamed abalone, and amberjack all came out. My first thought was, 'is this really the right amount for this many people?' The sashimi wasn't served on one big plate but spread across small individual plates by type, which made picking and choosing fun throughout the meal.

There were light white fish like red seabream, flounder and sea bass, plus fattier fish like yellowtail and amberjack, so it wasn't a one-note flavor experience.

At a group dinner, some people love sashimi and others prefer fattier fish, and this spread let everyone eat to their own taste.

The mackerel and hairtail especially stood out. You don't usually see them in a standard mixed sashimi platter, so it was fun trying a piece of each, and the silvery skin left on gave a clearly different texture.

The yellowtail and amberjack were on the rich, savory side, while the red seabream and flounder were lighter and easy to eat.

Steamed abalone served with the set

With steamed abalone added in too, this felt less like a plain sashimi platter and more like a course of small seafood dishes.

Cooked dishes for guests who don't eat raw fish

Shabu-shabu ingredients with beef, vegetables and mushrooms
Shabu-shabu ingredients

Alongside the sashimi, shabu-shabu is also served. Thinly sliced beef, vegetables and mushrooms made for a warm dish that was welcome after all the cold sashimi. At group dinners, some people want soup or meat more than raw fish, so having shabu-shabu felt like a real advantage of this set.

Steamed skate in spicy sauce
Steamed skate

The steamed skate came with a spicy sauce. It was a good, punchier snack to have between the sashimi and shabu-shabu, and it paired well with a drink too.

Crispy yurinji
Yurinji

The yurinji (crispy fried chicken with sauce) added a crunchy texture that broke up the sashimi-heavy flow. Not everything was raw fish, so it stayed interesting until the end.

Seafood pasta with shrimp and clams

Last was seafood pasta. With shrimp and clams in it, it wasn't just a token side dish but felt like a proper way to end the meal. By the time the pasta arrived after the sashimi, shabu-shabu, skate and yurinji, we were already pretty full.

What kind of gathering Namhae Fish suits best

When choosing a Jamsilsaenae group dinner spot, what really matters isn't one or two things — it's whether there's something for everyone in the group.

With just the sashimi omakase set, Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch covers sashimi, sushi, mulhoe, shabu-shabu, cooked dishes and pasta all in one, which cut down on the stress of choosing what to order.

Sashimi lovers can eat their fill of sashimi, people who want something warm can have the shabu-shabu, and everyone can share the pasta at the end. If you're looking for a spot in Jamsilsaenae for a group dinner or gathering of 3-4 people, this is a sashimi restaurant worth adding to your list.
