In short

Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is a duck roast and duck jumulleok (marinated duck stir-fry) restaurant on Manisan-ro near Jeondeungsa Temple in Ganghwa, Incheon. Two adults and two children shared two servings of duck roast and one serving of duck jumulleok, finished with fried rice, and the kids went back again and again to the self-serve corner for dongchimi radish, radish wraps and candied sweet potato. We took a weekend trip to Ganghwa Island with the kids. Our main destination was Okto-kki Space Center, which the kids love, but rather than heading straight there, I wanted to soak in some of Ganghwa's autumn scenery, so we stopped by Jeondeungsa Temple for a stroll before continuing on.

After looking around Jeondeungsa, we headed nearby for lunch at Deok Ori Jumulleok. It's close to the temple and known among people searching for good restaurants near Jeondeungsa in Ganghwa, and it was drawing quite a crowd during the lunch peak.

Why Deok Ori Jumulleok is an easy stop near Jeondeungsa Temple

Deok Ori Jumulleok is located at 121 Manisan-ro, Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon — a good place to stop for a meal if you're planning a Ganghwa trip around Jeondeungsa. We arrived a bit past the lunch peak, and even then the parking lot was nearly full. Luckily, after about five minutes, some customers finishing up their meal left, and a spot opened up. It really gave the sense of how popular this place is. If you're visiting with kids on the weekend, or planning a family meal in Ganghwa with your parents, it's probably worth booking ahead through Naver Reservation.

Ganghwa's autumn scenery through the dining room window

Once we sat down inside, the view outside the window was just as nice as the food. The chestnuts were ripening in the autumn air, and the rice paddies and fields of Ganghwa spread out right in front of us — the kind of countryside scenery you don't get at a restaurant in the city. Eating with that view really made it feel like a proper healing trip.

Deok Ori Jumulleok's duck roast: 300g, charcoal-seared, kid-friendly

Two servings of duck roast with vegetables at Deok Ori Jumulleok

We visited as two adults and two kids. To start, we ordered two servings of duck roast so the kids could eat first.

The duck roast at Deok Ori Jumulleok comes in 300g servings, made with fresh duck seared alongside onion and seasonal vegetables like water dropwort, shepherd's purse, perilla leaves, chives, and scallion.

What sets this place apart is that they sear the duck first over charcoal. The duck roast comes out partially cooked from the kitchen and finishes on a thick griddle at the table, which made it much easier to eat than grilling the meat from scratch.

Watching the smoke rise as the duck picked up that charcoal-fire flavor during the initial sear was quietly satisfying to watch. Visiting with kids often means being too busy grilling meat to actually talk, but since the duck arrives already partly seared, we could actually chat as a family while eating.

Does the duck jumulleok taste gamey?

One serving of duck jumulleok tossed in sauce

After finishing the duck roast, we ordered one serving of duck jumulleok (spicy stir-fried duck), also 300g per serving.

The duck jumulleok is made with duck butchered that same day, tossed in a special sauce and aged for one day. I was a little worried it might taste too plain since they said no MSG is used, but once I tried it, that worry turned out to be unnecessary.

Above all, there was almost no gamey duck smell, and the sauce kept pulling me back for more. I liked the duck roast, but honestly the duck jumulleok won me over too. Since the two dishes have such different styles, I'd suggest that families order both rather than sticking to just one, like we did.

Why the finishing fried rice is a must with duck jumulleok

And the biggest reason we ordered here in the first place — the finishing fried rice!! After eating most of the duck jumulleok, we ordered fried rice made in the leftover sauce to wrap up the meal. Finishing jumulleok with fried rice feels like an unwritten rule at this point, haha.

After enjoying the meat and sauce, finishing with fried rice made the meal feel properly complete. The kids filled up first on duck roast while the adults got to enjoy the jumulleok and fried rice — the menu lineup was just right for our family of two adults and two kids!!

The self-serve dongchimi radish the kids liked more than the meat

Surprisingly, there was one dish the kids really dug into — the dongchimi radish (radish water kimchi) and radish wraps set out at the self-serve corner.

We brought it over to eat alongside the meat, but our kids kept reaching for the dongchimi radish more than the meat itself. Its cool, crunchy taste worked well with the meat and was easy for the kids to enjoy without any hesitation.

Candied sweet potato that the kids loved
Clean, mild side dishes made with domestic ingredients

There was also candied sweet potato, which the kids love, so it worked well for eating with them. They said the side dishes use domestically grown ingredients, including sweet potatoes and greens grown right on Ganghwa Island. Overall the seasoning wasn't heavy — it had a clean, tidy feel that stood apart from the more intense flavors we're used to in city food.

Is Deok Ori Jumulleok worth adding to a Ganghwa day trip?

This Ganghwa trip went: a short stroll at Jeondeungsa, a filling lunch at Deok Ori Jumulleok, then on to Okto-kki Space Center, which the kids had been waiting for. Route matters a lot when traveling with kids in Ganghwa, so if you're planning to visit both Jeondeungsa and Okto-kki Space Center, you'll need somewhere to eat in between.

In that sense, Deok Ori Jumulleok near Jeondeungsa worked well as a family meal spot, though on weekends it draws a crowd and you may have to wait during peak hours. Even when we visited a bit past lunchtime, the parking lot was full, so if you want a relaxed meal, I'd recommend booking through Naver Reservation first.

A place where you can look out at Ganghwa's rice paddies and fields while enjoying clean, tidy side dishes and duck dishes with that distinct charcoal-seared fire flavor. If you're looking for somewhere to have a solid family meal after visiting Jeondeungsa, this Ganghwa restaurant near Jeondeungsa, Deok Ori Jumulleok, is worth a stop.
