After dinner with friends, we didn't want to just part ways, so we looked for somewhere to go — and ended up at Center Coffee Gwanghwamun ☕️🤎 We were looking for a café in Gwanghwamun where we could keep chatting after eating, and it turned out the store was bigger and calmer than I expected. I really liked it.

How close is Center Coffee Gwanghwamun to Gwanghwamun and City Hall stations?

📍 Center Coffee Gwanghwamun

Center Coffee Gwanghwamun is located in Unit 105, basement level 1 of SFC Mall, 136 Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul. It's inside the Seoul Finance Center building, so it's easy to find, and it's fairly close to Gwanghwamun Station.

It's convenient whether you have plans around Gwanghwamun or are eating near City Hall and looking for a café afterward. I especially liked that it's well positioned to continue on toward Cheonggyecheon for a walk — the route just worked for me personally. Like us, you could stop by the café after dinner and then stroll along Cheonggyecheon slowly, or take a break here in the middle of a Cheonggyecheon walk.

Parking is available too — the first 90 minutes are free, and after that it's an extra ₩1,000 per 10 minutes. Worth knowing if you're driving around Gwanghwamun.

Center Coffee, a repeat Blue Ribbon pick

Looking into Center Coffee, I couldn't skip the Blue Ribbon story. Center Coffee is known as a coffee specialist that has made the Blue Ribbon list for several years running, so it's fairly well known among coffee lovers too.

Personally, when I pick a café, interior and mood matter, but in the end whether the coffee is actually good matters most. In that sense, Center Coffee felt like a place worth visiting just for the coffee itself.

Gwanghwamun café coffee — the mood hits you the moment you walk in

Center Coffee Gwanghwamun is in the basement of SFC Mall, but the space is bigger than you'd expect. The store has floor-to-ceiling glass, so you can take in the whole interior at once, and overall it felt clean but not too cold or sterile.

One side of the store sells beans and drip bags, which was fun to browse. Even for someone like me who doesn't know much about coffee beans, just looking at them one by one and smelling them was oddly enjoyable haha.

Modern and sleek, but also relaxed enough to chat comfortably with friends. Even though we visited in the evening, the store had quite a few customers.

It wasn't overly crowded or chaotic — the table spacing and seating variety looked good for groups too. Some people were drinking coffee alone, some were chatting with friends, and others had laptops open.

So it seemed like a good spot not just for a quick stop before or after meeting someone, but also for lingering a while.

And this was the menu item that turned out to be a real surprise favorite that day — the Earl Grey lemon tart.

Honestly, at first I just ordered it as something to go with the coffee. But after tasting it, I thought — what if I hadn't ordered this?! That's how much I liked it haha.

On top is a cream with a subtle hint of Earl Grey, and the tea's distinctive fragrance came through quite well. The cream wasn't too heavy or greasy though. In the middle, lemon brightness cuts through and freshens up your mouth. After the sweet cream, that tart lemon flavor coming in made for a combination that was better than I expected.

And at the bottom, there was a rich chocolate layer along with a crisp tart shell, which added a fun textural contrast.

With the flavors coming through in sequence like that, each bite never felt monotonous. I usually don't like desserts that are just too sweet, but this one worked well alongside coffee too. Oat latte & vanilla latte

The oat latte I ordered was also good. That soft, nutty character of an oat latte blended nicely with the coffee, making it easy to drink. I also tried a sip of my friend's vanilla latte, which was subtly sweet and would go well with dessert.

On top of everything, the cups Center Coffee serves in were memorable too. There's a heartfelt little phrase printed on the cup that catches your eye — it seems like a small thing, but details like that really do lift your mood.

Chatting with friends, we noticed the phrase and laughed again, took some photos. These little moments make time spent at a café feel a bit more special. Sitting with good people in a good space over a good cup of coffee, talking about nothing in particular — I really love that kind of time.

Another strength of Center Coffee Gwanghwamun is its location. It's easy to reach if you have plans between Gwanghwamun and City Hall, and convenient for heading toward Cheonggyecheon after a meal. After dinner, we talked for a long while over coffee and dessert at Center Coffee, then walked toward Cheonggyecheon.

Rather than just having one coffee and heading straight home, walking slowly while talking made the evening feel much more relaxed. So I'd recommend using Center Coffee as part of a dinner → Center Coffee → Cheonggyecheon walk route. It's a pretty good route especially for meeting friends or going on a date in the evening. You could also stop by when you're out walking Cheonggyecheon and craving coffee. It felt like a place that suits anyone looking for a Cheonggyecheon café with specialty coffee.

Overall verdict on Center Coffee Gwanghwamun

I'd recommend Center Coffee Gwanghwamun to anyone in Gwanghwamun looking for a clean, good-mood café. I especially liked the variety of coffee options and the chance to get into specialty coffee and beans. The store is also fairly spacious, so it worked well for chatting with friends, and the calm atmosphere made it seem fine for a date or a casual get-together too.

Above all, the location is great. Close to Gwanghwamun Station, easy to reach from City Hall, and convenient to combine with a Cheonggyecheon walk. I'd recommend the route of visiting with friends after dinner, having coffee and dessert, then strolling slowly along Cheonggyecheon.

And for dessert, I personally give a strong recommendation to the Earl Grey lemon tart 🤍 The fragrance of Earl Grey, the brightness of lemon, and the chocolate and crisp tart shell all come together — genuinely delicious.

Next time, I'd like to try other brewing coffees and pick out beans or drip bags I like. Time spent sharing good coffee and dessert with good people in a good space — that alone made for a satisfying evening at Center Coffee Gwanghwamun.
