Anyang Station café, matcha levain cookie and scone: Saechamcoffee

Saechamcoffee is a brunch café on Daengri-dan-gil street in Anyang, Gyeonggi, a short walk from Anyang Station. On a solo weekend afternoon, the writer ordered a nunetine scone (sugar-glazed puff-pastry style), a matcha levain cookie and a squid ink bread spicy chicken sandwich with an iced americano, using the discount on a sandwich bought with an americano. With an indoor restroom, a water dispenser and cushions for dogs, Saechamcoffee is an easy café to linger in.

Green tangerine cold soba and pork cutlet set in Yongsan: Onjeong

Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch is an old-school gyeongyangsik (Western-style Korean) pork cutlet restaurant on Baekbeom-ro near Hyochang Park Station in Yongsan, Seoul. The buckwheat soba and pork cutlet (small) set arrives as a full tray with green tangerine cold soba, mushroom soup, morning bread and rice from the self bar, and a spicy sauce for 1,000 won extra lets you adjust the flavour. For anyone craving classic retro pork cutlet in Seoul, Onjeong is worth a stop.

Gyodae gimbap restaurant with self-serve broth and 3 rolls: Halls

Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a gimbap (seaweed rice roll) restaurant near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul, serving gimbap along with dakgangjeong (crispy fried chicken) and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). The writer ordered green onion tuna, spam egg and double cheese gimbap half-and-half as a dakgangjeong set, with broth from the self-serve station on one side of the shop. Because the rolls at Halls Gimbap Main Branch use little rice and plenty of filling, they are an easy way to taste several kinds in one sitting.
