I was looking for something hearty to eat in Yongsan and suddenly craved old-school gyeongyangsik (Western-style Korean) pork cutlet, so I headed to Onjeong's Yongsan branch.

The restaurant is near Hyochang Park Station, so it's great — easy to get to by public transit.

Ordering the buckwheat soba and pork cutlet (small) set

Just having cutlet alone felt a bit lacking, so I ordered the soba and pork cutlet (small) set, which comes with refreshing cold soba on the side.

If you're craving something cool and refreshing on a hot day, the green tangerine cold soba is recommended

The cool soba with the fresh scent and subtle tartness of green tangerine made it feel fresher than regular cold soba. Honestly, the sweet yet clean broth combined with the citrusy green tangerine flavor left my mouth feeling refreshed.

There's also a self bar for rice and side dishes, which quietly matters a lot at a cutlet restaurant.

The set menu comes with buckwheat soba, one piece of gyeongyangsik pork cutlet, soup, and morning bread. It seems the set includes one cutlet, while the à la carte menu gives you two.

With the cutlet and soba served together with soup, bread, and rice, it really felt like eating at an old-fashioned gyeongyangsik restaurant.

If you like spicy food, it's nice that you can add ₩1,000 to adjust the flavor to your taste.

Dipping morning bread into mushroom soup
Lightly dipping the bread into the soup was also a quietly delicious touch

The mushroom soup had a soft, creamy texture with the distinct aroma and nutty flavor of mushrooms. Rather than being strongly salty or heavy, it was light and mild, making it a good way to ease into the cutlet.

How the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet tastes with spicy sauce

The crisply fried cutlet was generously topped with a sweet, smooth brown sauce, giving it the exact look that brings back memories of old-school gyeongyangsik restaurants.

Eating cutlet continuously can get greasy at times, but pairing it with the cool cold soba in between cleaned my palate — the combination worked well.

A drink is also provided if you participate in the review event, so that's worth keeping in mind.

With one bite, the crispy breading, tender meat, and sweet sauce came together nicely, giving me exactly the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet flavor I'd been expecting. Adding the spicy sauce to the sweet flavor of the basic sauce gave it a slightly spicy kick, offering a different kind of appeal.
