Anyang Station café, matcha levain cookie and scone: Saechamcoffee

In short

Saechamcoffee is a brunch café on Daengri-dan-gil street in Anyang, Gyeonggi, a short walk from Anyang Station. On a solo weekend afternoon, the writer ordered a nunetine scone (sugar-glazed puff-pastry style), a matcha levain cookie and a squid ink bread spicy chicken sandwich with an iced americano, using the discount on a sandwich bought with an americano. With an indoor restroom, a water dispenser and cushions for dogs, Saechamcoffee is an easy café to linger in.

Beyond the sandwiches, there was also a good variety of levain cookies, so dessert was covered too. After some deliberation, I ordered a matcha levain cookie and a nunetine scone as dessert.

It left an impression as a place that goes beyond just selling coffee and desserts, feeling like a café that's built together with the voices of the customers who visit.

After ordering and waiting a bit, the freshly baked scone and coffee arrived first.

How does the squid ink bread spicy chicken sandwich taste?

Squid ink bread spicy chicken sandwich
Mild yet spicy — that's the highlight

The spicy chicken sandwich, made with squid ink bread, was especially satisfying. The bread had that crisp-outside, soft-inside texture, and the more I chewed, the more savory it tasted.

Spicy chicken sandwich served with pickles

The sandwich came with pickles on the side, which were great to eat a bit at a time in between bites. The tangy, crunchy pickles paired well with the spicy, mild sandwich, cleansing the palate. The subtle, mellow flavor of the squid ink bread also went well with the spicy chicken, so the overall balance of flavors was good. It wasn't overpowering — mild overall with the chicken's spiciness as the highlight — so I could enjoy it all the way through without getting tired of it.

A thick matcha levain cookie
Can't skip the matcha levain cookie either

The levain cookie caught my eye overall with its thick, appetizing look, and taking a bite, I could taste the rich matcha flavor coming through subtly.

Neatly packaged desserts from Saechamcoffee
The packaging at Saechamcoffee was neat too

It had that signature levain cookie texture — slightly crisp outside, moist and dense inside — so the more I chewed, the more savory it got, nice. The packaging was also neat and clean, so it would work well as a gift or to take home and enjoy slowly.
