Struggling to decide where to eat when you've got plans with a friend or a date in Hongdae? Today I'm introducing a Hongdae pasta spot famous for its adorable rubber duck omurice — Omil Hongdae. Beyond the cute interior, this place has some genuinely unusual menu items you won't find at your typical Western-style restaurant. I tried three dishes: the rubber duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta, and Omil soba maki. Let me walk you through the location, hours, interior vibe, menu prices and a full taste review!
Where is Omil Hongdae, and is there a wait in the evening?
Omil Hongdae is located on the 2nd floor of 178-8 Yanghwa-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, about a 2-minute walk from Hongdae Station Exit 8. Hours are 11:30–21:15, and reservations can be made through Naver Reservation. For parking, check ahead for a dedicated lot and fees.
Omil Hongdae, this Hongdae pasta spot, is close to Hongdae Station Exit 8, so it's convenient to reach by public transit.

The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building, so you'll head up the stairs on the left. There's also a separate waiting area with seats for customers in line near the entrance.

Since it's such a popular Hongdae restaurant, there can be a wait in the evenings or on weekends.

Some reviews say there's no wait on weekday lunches, but tables tend to fill up fast in the evening. So if you've got a Hongdae date planned, it might be worth checking Naver Reservation ahead of time or arriving a bit earlier than peak evening hours. I visited just after 7pm and it was pretty relaxed~
Inside Omil Hongdae: atmosphere and seating

Omil, this Hongdae pasta restaurant, catches your eye right from its cute yellow front door. Inside, it's decorated in bright cream tones, giving off a cozy yet clean feel overall. Tables are mostly for two, with some four-tops as well. The space isn't huge, so it suits couples on dates or meals with friends better than large group gatherings.

I also liked that there are solo seats~ Anyone who likes a cute atmosphere, or is looking for a Hongdae blind date spot, would probably enjoy it too. The amenities are surprisingly well thought out.

Self-serve bar, power outlets and a kids' chair
Omil Hongdae has a separate self-serve bar where you can freely help yourself to pickles and water.

Paper cups, tissues and wet wipes are all provided, and phone charging cables are available too. Being able to grab what you need yourself during the meal is pretty convenient, right? The restroom is near the dining area, a single-stall setup with a sink. That said, since there's only one restroom, you may have to wait when it's busy. There's also a kids' chair available, useful to know if you're visiting with a little one.

The solo seats have an outlet underneath, so you can charge your phone while you eat! You can tell they've thought about their guests.

How do the rubber duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta and soba maki taste?

Let me introduce the three dishes I ordered at Omil, this Hongdae pasta spot. First, the one that caught my eye the most — the Chit-chit-chit! Rubber Duck Omurice.
Fluffy swirled egg sits on top of salmon fried rice, with tiny rubber ducks made from quail eggs gathered cutely in a group.
There's even a rubber duck wearing sunglasses and sitting in a tube, so I wanted to take photos before eating. But taste matters just as much as looks, right? This is an omurice with soft egg, savory salmon fried rice, and a rich sauce on the side. Scooping up the egg and fried rice together with the sauce lets the different flavors and textures come together nicely. If you like moist, soft egg, this dish will hit the spot.

Gochujang butter pasta, 18,900 won
Next up was Omil's signature gochujang butter pasta. Gochujang (Korean chili paste) and butter — I was curious what that combination would taste like at first. It turns out the savory depth of gochujang paired with the rich flavor of butter creates something close to a spicy rosé pasta.

The thick sauce coats the noodles well, and the spiciness cuts through any heaviness, giving it a different charm from a regular cream pasta. The pork on top was cooked tender and paired well with the noodles. If you like rich, savory sauces but are a bit tired of standard cream pasta, this one's worth trying.

Omil soba maki, 12,900 won
The last dish I ordered, Omil soba maki, is a slightly unusual side made with buckwheat noodles instead of rice. It's built on Omil's special sauce, wrapping buckwheat noodles, vegetables and Japanese-style rolled egg in seaweed.

The soft buckwheat noodles and rolled egg combine with the crisp crunch of vegetables for a different appeal than regular gimbap (seaweed rice roll). It pairs especially well alongside a rich-sauced main like the gochujang butter pasta, letting you enjoy contrasting flavors and textures.
Ordering all three together meant I got to try a bit of everything — soft omurice, spicy pasta, and the distinctive soba maki. On top of that, the rubber duck omurice was fun to photograph thanks to its cute look. If you're on the hunt for a good Hongdae pasta spot, Omil Hongdae with its charming atmosphere and unique menu is worth considering. This combination of three dishes I ordered could also be a solid choice for sharing food with a friend or for a Hongdae date.
