Sometimes you want Korean BBQ for dinner in Mokpo but don't want the hassle of grilling it yourself the whole time. Looking around Peace Square, I found Simdon Mokpo, where the meat comes out already grilled on a platter. I got to eat pork belly, jowl, and skin all at once, and not having to grill from scratch made things a lot easier. Let me walk through the location and parking, the menu, the meat I tried, and the side dishes.
It's in an area near Peace Square packed with restaurants and bars, so it's a good spot for a walk or a second stop after dinner. Hours and closing days can change, so I'd recommend checking the latest info on the day you visit.
Parking and how to get there

Simdon Mokpo doesn't have its own parking lot, so I used the parking spaces around the restaurant. Evenings and weekends can get busy with cars, so I'd suggest arriving with a bit of extra time.
The building and entrance

Coming from Peace Square, Simdon was easy to spot. The exterior has a clean look, so it wasn't hard to find on my first visit.
Inside: seating and atmosphere
Inside, soft lighting and an overall tidy layout. The tables weren't crammed together, so it was comfortable to chat while eating.

Toward the back, there's a group table that seats several people together — good for staff dinners or gatherings with more guests.
There were also several 4-person tables. Even with the platter and side dishes laid out, there was plenty of room.
Simdon's menu and platter prices

The menu centers on the platter, letting you choose pork belly, jowl, and skin to your taste. The Simdon assorted platter was ₩43,000 for medium (650g) and ₩59,000 for large (900g). There was also a good range of side dishes to go with the meat or finish the meal, like fried rice, egg custard, milmyeon (cold noodles), and doenjang rice soup.

The Simdon assorted platter comes with pork belly, jowl, and skin all grilled together on one plate. Not having to order each cut separately made it easy to pick on my first visit.
🍽 What I ordered
- Simdon assorted platter, medium 650g — ₩43,000
- Beef-bone milmyeon — ₩6,000
- Bibim milmyeon — ₩6,500
- Simdon fried rice (2 servings) — ₩7,000
Side dishes and the free cheese egg custard before 6pm

The basic side dishes were mountain garlic (myeongi namul) and lettuce, plus sauces to go with the meat. There was even cumin salt, soybean powder, and wasabi, so it was easy to switch things up depending on taste.
Visiting before 6pm got me a free loaded cheese egg custard. It's ₩5,000 on the menu, so it was a hearty addition to the platter.

Doenjang (soybean paste) rice soup also came standard. Rice sits in a doenjang broth, making it a warm way to finish after the meat, and the broth was easy to spoon up too.
Eating a spoonful of rice and broth together, the savory doenjang flavor really came through. It's a different style from the fried rice, and it hit the spot when I was craving something warm and soupy.
What the one-platter grilled pork is like

The platter came with pork belly, jowl, and skin together. Bean sprouts, kimchi, tofu, chives, and enoki mushrooms were grilled alongside, making the whole platter quite generous.

The meat was cut into bite-sized pieces, easy to pick up right away. The outside was browned nicely while the inside kept a thick, tender bite.

I tried the pork skin here and there too — it had a chewy texture that was good to alternate with the meat. A sign noted they use Duroc pork, and even the thicker cuts weren't dry.

There was also a guide on the wall showing Simdon's recommended meat combinations.

There were combos like pairing the meat with dolgim (laver) and pickled radish, or with salted herring roe, plus adding wasabi. Following the suggested methods one by one, I found I could enjoy the same meat in different ways.

I put meat and chives on lettuce, and also wrapped meat in the mountain garlic. The salty flavor of the mountain garlic balanced out the richness of the meat nicely.
Milmyeon and fried rice to finish the meal

The beef-bone milmyeon had noodles and toppings in a clear broth. Drinking the broth after the meat left my mouth feeling much cleaner.

The noodles were thin and soft, and went well with the cold broth.

The bibim milmyeon had plenty of sauce evenly tossed through the noodles. It had a sweet-and-sour flavor that paired well with the meat too.

The sauce soaked into the noodles well, so every bite had that savory depth. Eating it after the meat was a nice way to reset my palate.

After working through most of the meat, I ordered the Simdon fried rice for two. Adding fried rice to what was left on the platter made for a hearty finish.

The flavor from the meat and vegetables had soaked into the rice, giving it a nutty richness. You can also add cheese, so ordering that too could suit some tastes.
Things worth checking before your visit

The restaurant was also running a review event — post a review on social media and you get ice cream.

I wrote a review that day and got the ice cream. A cold finish after eating so much meat was a nice touch.
Is Simdon in Mokpo worth a visit?
What stuck with me most at Simdon Mokpo was how the meat came pre-grilled on a single platter. Switching up the pork belly, jowl, and skin with different sauces kept even one platter from feeling repetitive. With milmyeon, bibim milmyeon, fried rice, and doenjang rice soup on the side, the meal felt hearty from the meat all the way through to the last bite.
If you want to eat several cuts of meat at once without the hassle of grilling it yourself, or you're looking for an easy dinner spot near Peace Square, Simdon Mokpo is worth a visit.
