Kkori gomtang restaurant near Mokpo Peace Square with free bean sprout

On a one-night trip to Mokpo, I was looking for a kid-friendly restaurant near Peace Square and ended up at Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang (무진장식육꼬리곰탕). With hearty dishes the whole family could eat together, and a beef tail soup we all genuinely enjoyed after a long time, it turned out to be the perfect stop after wandering around Mokpo Peace Square :)

Interior and menu

The interior of this Mokpo Peace Square restaurant. It was clean and pleasant inside, with a variety of seating, so it looked fine for couples, families, or groups.

Rice and extra side dishes were self-serve, so it was a comfortable, low-pressure place to eat.

Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang's menu. Since we were eating with kids, we ordered the Hanwoo Special Kkori Gomtang (tail + knee cartilage) and the Hanwoo Kkori Gomtang. Looking at the menu, everything is Hanwoo beef! They say it's a three-generation restaurant using only Hanwoo beef tail and bone broth, so it's a Mokpo Peace Square restaurant you can trust.

The basic side dishes — the bean sprouts my kid kept refilling

The basic side dishes were radish kimchi, cabbage kimchi, pickled chives, bean sprouts, and some sauces. The bean sprouts in particular were really tasty — the kids seemed to love them too, because we refilled that bean sprout dish so many times 😂

Eating bean sprouts straight off the plate... hahaha. They weren't spicy, so they were easy for a kid to eat. That plus a bowl of soup with rice mixed in — one meal, done in a flash!

How was the Hanwoo beef tail soup?

The soup we ordered came out pretty quickly! Seeing that milky broth bubbling away already got my mouth watering and gave me a boost of energy.

The soup was packed with meat too. The meat was substantial and tender, perfect for a kid to eat. There are plenty of places where the meat is skimpy, but the meat at Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang was the real deal. No gamey smell at all, just totally clean.

There was also the fun of pulling meat straight off the bone. It was tender and came off easily, with a savory flavor lingering in the mouth, and the chewy texture unique to tail meat was excellent too.

There were also thin wheat noodles (somyeon) in the soup, nice to eat between bites of rice. Perfect for kids who like noodles too. The broth was clean with no muddy aftertaste, and rich, deeply steeped flavor. Every spoonful of the warm soup was a little moment of happiness.

Why it was a good place to bring a kid

When I mixed rice into the broth and added cut-up meat for the kids, they said it was delicious and cleaned their bowls in no time ✨ When kids slurp it up that happily while eating out, that's the best. In that sense, Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang was satisfying. Really good to visit with kids :)

Piled onto the radish kimchi, piled onto the chives — eating them together doubles the flavor! I heard the chives here are like this place's version of spicy relish, and adding them right into the soup makes it even better. Filling and absolutely delicious :) The rice was fluffy too, perfect for mixing into the soup.

While we were eating, the phone kept ringing with group reservation calls — sounded like a genuine local favorite! A real Mokpo Peace Square restaurant that only locals know about. I think I'll remember this place next time I come to Mokpo. If you're looking for a Peace Square restaurant that's good to eat at with kids, I'd recommend visiting Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang — it tastes great and can fill up the whole family :)
