Songpa pot rice restaurant with gat kimchi side dishes: Gome Mui

In short

Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a pot rice (sotbap) Japanese restaurant on B1 of Tera Tower Building A near Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. On this repeat visit the writer ordered the wild sea bream pot rice with spring greens and the steak pot rice tonkatsu set, and the standard side dishes — gat kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi), squid jeotgal (salted fermented squid) and miso soup — matched the pot rice well. Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is not cheap, but the ingredient quality and warm service make it a place worth returning to.

Every single time, the food is neat and the taste is consistent, and the staff are so kind that I honestly hope the owner does great business. If you're near Munjeong Station or Tera Tower, I really think you should try it at least once.

Having visited several times now, I notice that Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong isn't just about the food — the space itself is really tidy.

It's on the smaller side, but the warm wood-tone interior makes it feel cozy and clean at the same time. Above all, every time I go, the space is well kept and the food is plated neatly, which makes the whole meal feel good. Personally, I think it's these small details adding up that keep bringing me back.

Side dishes at Gome Mui: gat kimchi, squid jeotgal and the service

At Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong, gat kimchi, squid jeotgal, and miso soybean paste soup come out as basic side dishes. Once again, the staff were genuinely kind.

Honestly, there are plenty of tasty restaurants out there, but places where both the food and the service are satisfying every single visit are rarer than you'd think. Even after multiple visits to Gome Mui, I've never once been let down on that front.

Even the basic side dishes — gat kimchi, squid jeotgal, and miso soybean paste soup — are all neat and pair wonderfully with the pot rice.

The gat kimchi especially — a bite after a spoonful of pot rice completely resets your palate, so your chopsticks keep going back for more.

Tip: If you're visiting with two people, I recommend the set that comes with tonkatsu. Pairing the pot rice with crispy tonkatsu makes for a much more filling spread.

How does the wild sea bream pot rice with spring greens taste?

One reason I keep coming back to this place is the wild sea bream pot rice with spring greens at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong. I ordered it again without hesitation, and once again the thick slices of sea bream on top made it look absolutely delicious.

The sea bream flesh is moist and tender with barely any fishy smell, and eaten with the rice, its clean umami really comes through.

Mixing in a little of the green onion soy sauce adds a savory saltiness that lifts the flavor even more. Even after eating it several times, I never get tired of it — proof that it's really my favorite dish here.

What comes in the steak pot rice tonkatsu set?

The steak pot rice at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is really delicious too.

Steak pot rice topped with egg yolk and garlic flakes

It comes generously topped with steak, an egg yolk, and garlic flakes. Popping the yolk and mixing it in releases a nutty aroma right away. The slightly sweet sauce, the smooth yolk, and the juicy steak come together without being overpowering — the kind of flavor that keeps your spoon moving.

Crispy tonkatsu served as part of the set

The tonkatsu that comes with it was crispy outside and moist inside, perfect for pairing bite by bite with the pot rice.

Verdict: is Gome Mui worth returning to near Munjeong Station?

Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is no longer just a 'place I want to go back to' for me — it's simply a regular spot I trust. Even after many visits, the food is still neat and delicious, and the staff's service remains kind, so I always leave feeling good.

The wild sea bream pot rice in particular is still just as good no matter how many times I eat it, to the point that I now naturally compare it whenever I have pot rice elsewhere.

The prices aren't exactly cheap, but considering the quality of the ingredients, the finished dishes, and the clean presentation and service, I'm more than satisfied.
