Seogwipo Korean restaurant for family fish meals: Tamra Hansang
In short
Tamra Hansang is a Korean restaurant near Olle Market in Seogwipo, Jeju. We had a braised cutlassfish set, grilled cutlassfish and mackerel, plus mackerel sashimi, stone-pot rice and scorched rice with my parents and the kids. A great choice when you want to try a range of Jeju dishes at the market.

Tamra Hansang near Seogwipo Olle Market
Tamra Hansang is at 22-5 Taepyeong-ro 353beon-gil, Seogwipo-si, Jeju, South Korea. It is closed every Thursday and is open from 10:00 to 22:00 on the other days.

When you travel to Jeju, a market is an essential stop, right? Since this was a Jeju trip with my parents, it was a market we absolutely had to visit. We went to Seogwipo Olle Market, which was not far from our accommodation, then stopped at Tamra Hansang, a great Korean restaurant in Seogwipo Market, for lunch. We parked in the market public parking lot and walked over.

A look at the Jeju Korean menu outside
We could check the menu outside. From grilled cutlassfish and grilled mackerel to mackerel sashimi and cutlassfish sashimi, which they say are only available when the fish is fresh, there were so many Korean dishes—including braised cutlassfish and grilled cutlassfish, the things you always end up eating in Jeju. It was a Seogwipo Olle Market Korean restaurant that would be great to visit with parents or children.

Space for family meals and groups
The restaurant looked clean at a glance, and it had enough seating for quite a few people, including group tables and four-person tables. Many families come here for a meal after visiting Seogwipo Olle Market, so high chairs were available too~ There were stone-pot rice pots on one side, as well as autographs—apparently celebrities have visited too. Naver reservations are available, so reserving ahead should make group dining more comfortable.

Ordering the braised cutlassfish set and grilled fish for the kids
True to its name, Tamra Hansang's strength was that you can eat Jeju's representative foods all on one table. They say many people choose the set menu, which lets you try Jeju braised cutlassfish, grilled cutlassfish, dombe gogi (Jeju-style boiled pork), mackerel sashimi, cutlassfish sashimi, and sweet shrimp together. The adults ordered the braised cutlassfish set, while the kids got grilled cutlassfish and grilled mackerel.

I was surprised by how much came out. Freshly fried cutlassfish, marinated shrimp, and side dishes arrived first.

Anything fried would be hard not to enjoy, but this fried cutlassfish was even better with its tender yet crisp texture and the tangy sauce served alongside~

Mackerel sashimi, cutlassfish sashimi, and sweet shrimp
Then the Seogwipo Olle Market mackerel sashimi, cutlassfish sashimi, and sweet shrimp came out. They explained something about the sashimi, but I couldn't quite catch it, haha.
My child said they wanted to try it, so I gave them one. They said the raw sweet shrimp was delicious. Even on its own, it was not fishy, and its natural sweetness was tasty.
And here was the mackerel sashimi, which you can only have when it is fresh. I am not actually much of a sashimi person, but there was absolutely—not even one bit—of fishiness. It was nutty and tasted so fresh; this really was a great place for mackerel sashimi near Seogwipo Olle Market~ My parents and my younger sibling's family all said every piece of sashimi at Tamra Hansang in Seogwipo Market was fresh, and they enjoyed it all~~

There was a staircase leading to the second floor, so I took a quick look and saw another space set up for group meals.

Braised cutlassfish with stone-pot rice
Our braised cutlassfish and stone-pot rice from Seogwipo Market arrived~ Since it was a braised cutlassfish set, we could try this and that, and I actually thought the not-too-large amount of rice meant we could finish everything without leaving any behind. The stone-pot rice pleased the adults, and the child who loves nurungji (scorched rice) was happy they could eat that too. Fresh fish matters for braised cutlassfish, of course, but the braising sauce has to be good too. This one was not overly intense, and mixing the sauce and radish into the rice made it so easy to finish a whole bowl.

Grilled cutlassfish and mackerel the kids enjoyed
The grilled cutlassfish and grilled mackerel for the kids came with miyeok-guk (seaweed soup). There were three pieces of grilled cutlassfish, and I was a little surprised that it cost ₩60,000. Still, the seasoning on the grilled fish was not too strong, and the kids ate so well that we hardly had any left~

There are so many must-try foods on a Jeju trip that choosing restaurants here and there can be a real dilemma. Tamra Hansang, a great place for braised cutlassfish in Seogwipo Market, was nice because we could try a good variety, including braised and grilled cutlassfish, dombe gogi, and mackerel sashimi. If you are looking for a Korean restaurant after stopping by Seogwipo Market, give it a try~
