Right as Chuseok holiday kicked off, I made my way to Nampo, the hottest pub in Gyodong right now. Let's dive straight into my Nampo review!!

Where Nampo is in Gyodong, plus hours and parking

Nampo is an outdoor-seating shellfish grill pub in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu, near 238 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, close to City Hall. Hours are Mon–Thu 18:00–02:00, Fri–Sat and the day before holidays 17:00–03:00, and Sun and holidays 17:00–02:00, with parking for 8 cars.

A friend told me about this great-vibe outdoor pub in Gyodong near City Hall and kept saying we had to go back, so I finally went too!! A Gyodong pub recommendation for Daegu!!

Nampo's direct-from-source maekbansuk (elvan stone) shellfish grill caught my eye right away!! My friend had tried the raw shrimp here before, so this time we went for the shellfish grill!! It's word-of-mouth famous as a shellfish grill spot in Daegu 😊

Inside Nampo and the outdoor yajang tables

Nampo has both indoor seats and yajang (outdoor tables), so you can pick depending on the weather. Here's the inside!! Dim lighting, moody interior!! I came for the outdoor tables but the indoor atmosphere was really great too. Would make a good Daegu date spot too!! Vibes 👍👍👍

Walk straight through the inside of the store and the yajang appears!! Lots of outdoor tables set up. You've got to eat outdoors in this kind of weather or it feels like a waste 🥹 With the lighting on it's even more atmospheric 🥹

Why outdoor tables at Nampo need a Naver reservation

To sit at Nampo's outdoor tables without waiting, a Naver reservation is essential. I booked ahead through Naver. They had my name written down on a tablet like this. So I got to sit down happily!!

Without a reservation, the wait is huge 😭 It's such a popular shellfish grill spot in Gyodong, Daegu, the waiting list is massive.. 👍 The outdoor tables really are that popular.. 👍 If you want to enjoy it without waiting, a Naver reservation is a must!!

Ordering the medium shellfish grill set by tablet

You order at Nampo through the tablet at your table. Here's the menu. Looking around, most people seemed to be eating the shellfish grill or the raw shrimp. We went with the shellfish grill!! The menu's on the tablet too. Just use the tablet to order 😊

Caught up in the atmosphere, we cracked open the soju first even though we had no side dish yet 🤭 In this yajang atmosphere, soju works fine without anything to go with it!! Apparently the name Nampo comes from a shortened form of "southern harbor." They say their motto is to bring the spirit and ingredients of the southern sea—hard to feel inland—straight to your table 👏 It really did feel like eating in front of the ocean even though we were in Daegu 🥹

The staff were busy handling all the setup themselves, but during especially busy times you can use the self-serve bar!! Small plates, utensils, aprons, gloves—it's all there for you to use!!

What comes in the medium set and how to grill it

Nampo's medium shellfish grill set comes with scallop, raw clam, fan mussel, shrimp, and abalone. Here it comes! The scallop, raw clam, fan mussel, and shrimp all looked so plump and full 🤤

Fire's on, now let's get the shellfish on the grill!! Staff put the shellfish on first like this. The cheese scallop is ready to eat 1–2 minutes after the cheese melts, and once the abalone stops moving, just tell the staff and they'll prep it for you 😊 Look how fresh that abalone is 👍

The free shabu-shabu and pork cutlet at Nampo

There's also the shabu-shabu that comes with it!! Knife-cut noodles, fish cake, mushroom, vegetables, and even shellfish go into the broth and boil away into a delicious shabu-shabu 😊 We only put in a little at first!! We're planning to add more after eating a bit 😊

A pork cutlet comes as a complimentary side too!! Before the shellfish finished cooking, we filled up on pork cutlet!!

Abalone and cheese scallop on the stone grill

Once the abalone stopped moving, we called the staff over, and they sliced it up for us—first bite!! There's no butter involved, but it tasted this sweet and nutty, something I hadn't felt in a while 🥹 Super chewy, and grilling it on the elvan stone somehow made it even more delicious!!

The cheese scallop had fully cooked too, so I wrapped it up with the cheese and tried a bite!! The nuttiness of the cheese met the clean flavor of the scallop and it was so good!! You don't need to go all the way to the beach for shellfish grill!! Nampo is seriously delicious 😭 A must-visit shellfish grill spot in Daegu 👍

Raw clam and shrimp

The raw clam started opening its mouth like it was hot. That means it's ready to eat?!?

Springy texture, savory umami with the ocean scent still alive, and a clean, subtle sweetness.. 👍 The raw clam was so good too 🥹

Now let's grill the shrimp!! I love shrimp, so I waited eagerly for it to cook and then ate the shrimp someone else peeled for me!! Shrimp always tastes best when someone else peels it for you 🤭 My friend peeled the first one nicely, but had trouble getting the shell off the second one 😅 Whatever, as long as it's delicious!!

Seasoned fan mussel

Time for the seasoned fan mussel to come to the center now!! It wasn't cooking well over at the edge, so we moved it to the middle 😊

The chewiness of the fan mussel, the gochujang (red chili paste) flavor, and the nuttiness of the cheese combined into a real treat 👍 The seasoned fan mussel grill also passes with flying colors!!

We added noodles to the shabu-shabu, and warmed the bread a bit until the cheese melted!! We only ordered one shellfish grill but got to eat such a variety of things!! I'm about to burst 🥹

Is Nampo good for group dinners and work outings?

Nampo has a spacious indoor area and lots of outdoor tables, so it could work well as a spot for group gatherings or company dinners in Daegu. Here's the yajang once the crowd thinned out a bit!! With this atmosphere and this menu, you'll regret it if you don't come to Nampo while in Daegu!! You have to hit the yajang in this weather!! Since it's outdoor seating, even a cat wandered through ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 🤭 When I visited, there were a lot of groups there for work dinners too, so it works as a company-dinner spot in Daegu too 👍

Last but not least, ice cream on the way out!! A filling dessert to finish, and I nearly burst walking out 🤭 Nampo, the hottest pub in Gyodong, Daegu right now—I immediately understood why it's known as a top shellfish grill spot in Daegu.
