Today, I’m sharing my visit to Donggok Jemyeon Daegu Dongseong-ro Main Branch, where I went when I was craving a warm meal around Daegu’s Dongseong-ro.

When you’re looking for somewhere to eat around Dongseong-ro, there are so many menu options that it can be hard to choose. Here, though, you can have house-made kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), jeon (savory pancake), and suyuk (boiled sliced meat) together, making it great for a filling meal.

I think this would be a useful reference for anyone looking for a place to eat in Gyodong, Daegu, or a good Korean restaurant around Dongseong-ro.
Donggok Jemyeon Daegu Dongseong-ro Main Branch: atmosphere and house-made noodles
The restaurant was clean overall, with a warm wood-toned atmosphere.

The kitchen is open, so you can catch a glimpse of the food being prepared, and the tables were spaced comfortably enough for an easy meal.

Donggok Jemyeon says it uses Korean beef bone broth simmered for over 20 hours.

They say they carefully select Korean beef bones and simmer them at the restaurant for a long time, so I was looking forward to the soup dishes. Another feature is the kalguksu: it is made with fresh noodles prepared in-house.

Three dishes chosen with the seafood chive pancake set
We ordered three dishes that day. We chose the seafood chive pancake set for two and paid extra to switch the kalguksu! The standard option is Korean beef bone kalguksu.
- Yukgaejang kalguksu (house-made noodles)
- Super-concentrated chicken kalguksu (house-made noodles)
- Seafood chive pancake
How spicy was the yukgaejang kalguksu?
First up, the yukgaejang kalguksu!

The red broth looked spicy just from its appearance, and when I tried it, the pleasantly spicy broth went very well with the kalguksu noodles.

It came with ingredients such as meat, bean sprouts, and green onion, so it did not feel like I was eating noodles alone; there were plenty of toppings to enjoy too.

If you enjoy the signature spicy broth of yukgaejang, I think this would make a good meal.
The mild yet rich broth of the super-concentrated chicken kalguksu

And then, the super-concentrated chicken kalguksu I had been looking forward to!

House-made kalguksu noodles sat in the milky-white broth, and we also added chicken for ₩2,000 so we could enjoy that alongside it.

The broth was not overpowering, with a mild but rich quality, so personally, I think it would suit people who like this style of kalguksu.
The noodles were pleasantly chewy rather than overly soft, making them good with the broth.
More than anything, having noodles in a warm broth felt so satisfying! They also offer unlimited free bowls of rice here, so it could be a good option for anyone who wants rice with their kalguksu too.
Seafood chive pancake that paired well with kalguksu

The main dish of the seafood chive pancake set was the seafood chive pancake, and it looked quite appetizing from the start.

It had plenty of chives, with plump shrimp on top and

lots of squid as well.
Dipping the crisp-fried pancake in seasoned soy sauce or chogochujang (sweet-tangy red chili dipping sauce) made it great with the kalguksu. In particular, a spoonful of kalguksu broth followed by a bite of seafood chive pancake was a really good combination.

Ordering the set was fun because we could pick at a little of everything, and the meal was very filling too.
A warm bowl of soup in Gyodong, Daegu
If you are looking for a good restaurant around Daegu’s Dongseong-ro, Donggok Jemyeon seemed like a fine place to visit when looking for somewhere to eat in Gyodong or downtown Daegu.

There are several types of kalguksu to choose from according to your taste, and I think it would also be good for a group to share with dishes such as seafood chive pancake or suyuk.

We ordered the seafood chive pancake set that day and enjoyed it very much.

After finishing our meal, we could also have a little yogurt on the way out. Ending on that refreshing note somehow put me in a good mood, haha. If you want a hearty meal of warm broth and noodles rather than something overly intense around Dongseong-ro, it may be worth visiting.
