Gyeongju family restaurant for pizza and pasta: Midam Kitchen

In short

Midam Kitchen is a Western-style restaurant just off Hwangridan-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. I visited with my family on a weekend evening and shared pepperoni pizza, Toowoomba pasta, and cheese roll katsu. The partitioned table areas made conversation easy, though they are not fully private rooms and parking is only available at a nearby public lot.

While looking for a place to eat with my family in Gyeongju's Hwangridan-gil on a weekend evening, I visited Midam Kitchen (미담키친). It was a little away from the center of Hwangridan-gil, so it was relatively quiet, and the partitioned table areas made it easy to talk over our meal as a family.

Where is Midam Kitchen, and how did I handle parking and reservations?

Midam Kitchen is at 33 Cheomseong-ro 49beon-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. It is set a little way in from Hwangridan-gil, and its hanok-inspired exterior fit well with the surrounding scenery.

The hours listed when the original post was written were 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM, with closures every Wednesday. There was no parking in front of the restaurant, so I used a public parking lot near Hwangridan-gil. When I walked over, it was not far from the restaurant.

Before my weekend-evening visit, I made a Naver reservation in advance and got in without waiting. At the time, there was also a notice that Naver reservations came with a house salad coupon.

Are the seats comfortable for a family meal?

Unlike the hanok-style exterior, the interior felt modern and tidy. I especially liked that each table had its own partitioned area.

They were not fully private rooms, but we could comfortably talk and eat together. On the weekend evening I visited, the overall atmosphere was calm, so we had a relatively relaxed meal despite being in busy Hwangridan-gil.

What were the prices and dishes we shared as a family?

The pepperoni pizza was ₩17,900, while the Toowoomba pasta and cheese roll katsu were ₩15,900 each. All three dishes were in the ₩10,000 range, so we ordered several items and shared them as a family.

How were the pepperoni pizza crust and flavor?

The salty, slightly spicy pepperoni went well with the savory crust. The crust was pleasantly chewy, so I enjoyed it right through to the edges.

How spicy was the Toowoomba pasta?

The Toowoomba pasta, a creamy pasta with a spicy kick, was topped with large shrimp. The sauce was rich and savory, and its spiciness cut through the heaviness of the cream sauce.

The thick, flat noodles paired well with the dense sauce. Eating the noodles and sauce with the shrimp added another texture, and the combination worked well.

Which dish was good to share with a child?

For a dish to share with my child, I ordered the cheese roll katsu, a cheese-filled breaded cutlet. It came with rice and salad, making it a good meal on its own as well.

It was crisp outside and generously filled with cheese, making it easy to eat. It was not spicy, so it was good for my child too, and dipping it in the separately served sauce added more savoriness. We had the salad alongside it, and rice refills were available if needed.

What stood out about Midam Kitchen for a family meal?

The partitioned seating and calm atmosphere stood out most during this meal. We could share pizza and pasta while giving my child the non-spicy cheese roll katsu. I felt it would also be a good fit for families who want to talk quietly over a meal, or couples on a date in Hwangridan-gil.
