Gyeongju Italian restaurant for a family meal: Midam Kitchen

In short

Midam Kitchen is an Italian restaurant on Hwangridan-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, where I shared Toowoomba pasta, quattro cheese pizza, and handmade giant pork cutlet with my child. The rich, thick pasta sauce stood out, and the children’s tableware was helpful, though parking in front was limited.

While walking along Hwangridan-gil during my trip to Gyeongju, I was craving pasta and went to Midam Kitchen (미담키친). My child and I shared Toowoomba pasta, quattro cheese pizza, and handmade giant pork cutlet, and the Toowoomba pasta was what I remembered most from that day.

Where is Midam Kitchen, and what was parking like?

Midam Kitchen is at 33 Cheomseong-ro 49beon-gil, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk. I stopped in for a meal while looking around Hwangridan-gil.

Along with pasta, there were pizza, risotto, salad, and pork cutlet, so it was easy to choose even when everyone wanted something different.

I brought a car on this trip. There was not a lot of parking directly in front of the restaurant, so we parked along a nearby roadside and walked over. There are also public parking lots around Hwangridan-gil. Since I planned to visit cafés and small shops after eating, I found it more convenient to park once and walk around.

On the way to the restaurant, I looked at the hanok buildings and alleys. Walking slowly made the trip to Gyeongju feel more tangible.

What was the seating like with a child?

The restaurant was spacious, and we sat indoors by large windows. Since we had reserved, they arranged an indoor table for us, which was comfortable for eating with my child. They brought children’s tableware right away, and the owner was kind as well.

What did we order to share?

The menu included arugula tomato pizza, quattro cheese pizza, beef risotto, basil shrimp risotto, several kinds of pasta and salad, and pork loin cutlet.

That day, we ordered Toowoomba pasta, quattro cheese pizza, handmade giant pork cutlet, green grape ade, and Zero Cola. At first, I considered having just pasta with a salad and drinks, but I also chose pork cutlet because I wanted a filling meal.

Sharing the pasta and pork cutlet let us alternate between different flavors and textures. With a broad selection, it was easy for each of us to pick what we wanted.

I did not order it this time, but I would like to try the risotto on my next visit.

The green grape ade was not overly sweet for my taste and was refreshing to drink during the meal. My child especially liked it too.

What did my child think of the quattro cheese pizza?

With the first bite of the quattro cheese pizza, I could taste the deep, savory richness of the cheese. Rather than just tasting salty, the cheeses came together in a layered flavor, and the cheese stretched in long strands. My child enjoyed it so much that they said they wanted to eat it again even after we got home.

Why was the Toowoomba pasta the most memorable?

Of everything we ordered that day, the Toowoomba pasta was my favorite. I had chosen it as a pasta to eat with the pork cutlet, but it was the dish that stayed with me most after the meal.

The Toowoomba pasta was what I remembered most that day.

The rich, thick sauce coated the noodles generously, so even the noodles alone did not taste plain. Pasta that is too strongly creamy or too rich can feel heavy after a few bites, but I kept reaching for this one even while alternating it with the pork cutlet. It also came with plenty of shrimp.

I served some onto a small plate and ate it with plenty of sauce. If I return, I would order the Toowoomba pasta again.

How was the handmade giant pork cutlet alongside the pasta?

I saw the sign at the entrance saying that the pork cutlet was handmade, which made me want to order it. Alternating the crisp pork cutlet with the soft pasta gave the meal different textures, so I did not get tired of it by the end.

The sauce was in the style of old-school Korean Western pork cutlet, which suited my taste. With the pork cutlet too, the meal felt filling and substantial.

At Midam Kitchen, it was easy to choose a meal with my child because we could share pasta, pizza, and pork cutlet in one place. Parking in front was limited, but it was a satisfying stop for a hearty meal while walking around Hwangridan-gil.
