Apgujeong team dinner Korean BBQ: 500g set and cold noodles, Ongijip

In short

Ongijip Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant an 8-minute walk from Apgujeong Station in Gangnam, Seoul, serving par-grilled domestic sow pork. On a Friday evening two of us ordered Par-Grilled Set A (pork neck, pork belly and gabrisal, 500g total), added a 4,000-won extra order of kimchi after tasting it grilled in the pork fat, and finished with chik naengmyeon (arrowroot cold noodles). Even with company dinner groups filling the room, Ongijip keeps tables well spaced and staff grill everything for you, so it works well for a group meal.

Where is Ongijip Main Branch in Apgujeong, and how busy is a Friday night?

Ongijip Main Branch is a barbecue restaurant about an 8-minute walk from Apgujeong Station. It's near the Four Points by Sheraton Seoul, Gangnam hotel, so it wasn't hard to find, haha. We timed the visit for the evening, right after my husband got off work near Sinsa Station, and headed over!

We went on a Friday evening and there were tons of office workers there, clearly a lot of group dinners going on. It was nearly full by the time we arrived — thank goodness we'd reserved ahead.

Even packed, they had the folding door at the entrance open, which gave it a nice open feel.

This was our seat! There's no overhead vent above the table here, which somehow made it feel cleaner. The table spacing was generous too, so it was easy to sit facing each other and chat — I could see this being a good spot for a team dinner or group gathering.

Par-Grilled Set A for two: what's in the 500g platter

The menu at Ongijip in Apgujeong! We went with Par-Grilled Set A.

500g total, letting you try three different cuts — the perfect amount for two people! Since it's domestic black pig, I was even more excited, haha.

What makes Ongijip's onggi clay grill different?

Ongijip's signature is grilling meat on an onggi (traditional earthenware) grill plate — the onggi absorbs the fat from the meat so it comes out clean-tasting and savory, they said. They've apparently been running this place for a long time with lots of regulars, and you could really feel the owner's pride in the onggi grill, haha. Also, since the onggi grill holds a steady, moderate temperature for a long time, it kept the meat warm while I ate — perfect for me since I eat slowly anyway.

The napa cabbage kimchi that came with it was 100% domestic! Maybe because it's domestic kimchi, it had a clean flavor and stayed crisp instead of going soft — it paired so well with the grilled meat. A kimchi spot to remember, haha.

Par-grilled pork, grilled to the end by Ongijip staff

After about 15 minutes, the par-grilled pork came out.

Staff grilled the par-grilled meat the rest of the way with real skill. All we had to do was eat, haha.

So much food, haha.

Pork neck (moksal)

First up was the pork neck! No dryness at all — soft and clean-tasting.

Pork belly (samgyeopsal)

And the pork belly was, of course, savory, haha. Grilled on the onggi plate, just the right amount of fat rendered out, leaving it clean while the belly's characteristic savoriness stayed intact — delicious.

Gabrisal (pork skirt meat)

And my personal favorite: gabrisal! I loved its distinctive chewy texture and savory flavor. Wrapped with the tangy-sweet scallion salad, ssamjang, and garlic, it was absolutely delicious, haha.

Grilled kimchi so good we added a 4,000-won order

And you can't skip grilling kimchi in the meat fat. Tangy and savory, an amazing match with the meat! It's the kind of kimchi you simply can't resist ordering more of, haha.

So in the end, we added an extra kimchi order! It's 4,000 won for the extra, and the portion was pretty generous — suddenly we were kimchi-rich, haha. It disappeared fast alongside the meat anyway, so I was glad we added it.

Finishing with chik naengmyeon (arrowroot cold noodles)

Last, we ordered chik naengmyeon! It had been a while since I'd had this, so I was so happy, haha. The noodles were, how do I put it, crunchy-chewy, and the broth was slightly sweet and refreshingly cool — I loved it.

Ate our fill of meat and finished with cold noodles on top — walked out completely stuffed, haha. The staff were all kind too. They kept circling the room checking if we needed anything, and even with so many group dinners going on and the place clearly hectic, the service held up well. If I'm ever in the area again, I think I'd come back!
