Mukho, Donghae seafood restaurant: octopus hotplate tips, Onda
In short
Onda Donghae Mukho Main Branch (온다 동해묵호본점) is a seafood hotplate restaurant in Mukho, Donghae, near Dojaebigol Sky Valley. The writer and his girlfriend went for dinner, waited in the air-conditioned 1st-floor waiting room, then had the octopus hotplate for two (₩58,000) at a 2nd-floor ocean-view window seat, finishing with the review-event fried rice with kkakdugi (radish kimchi) mixed in. With plenty of octopus, abalone, shrimp and hard clams, all fresh and free of any fishy taste, Onda was a memorable, great-value dinner spot in Mukho.

Location and layout of Onda Donghae Mukho Main Branch
Onda Donghae Mukho Main Branch is near Dojaebigol Sky Valley, the sightseeing spot everyone visits in Mukho. The entrance, waiting area and the kitchen where the food is prepared are on the 1st floor, and the dining area is on the 2nd floor, where floor-to-ceiling windows show the sea.

Seeing the big, hearty seafood dishes first with my own eyes really gave me that Mukho-trip feeling.

Where do you wait for a table at Onda in Mukho?
On the 1st floor of Onda Donghae Mukho Main Branch there's a separate waiting room where waiting guests can cool off in the air conditioning. Staff in matching uniforms greeted us, and the 1st floor leading to the entrance holds the kitchen where the food is prepared and the waiting room.
It was hot and humid, so having a waiting room was really nice. I bet it would win over parents, or a whole family on a group trip. The air conditioning in the waiting room was blasting cool, of course.

The spacious waiting room was full of couples and families.
2nd-floor dining room with ocean-view windows
When our turn came, we were shown up to the 2nd floor. Everything has a reason. At Onda, the 1st floor is a kitchen for preparing the food, and the 2nd floor felt set up purely so you can focus on eating. Popular, successful places all have their reasons.

The 2nd floor was packed. Outside, the sea and rocks seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows were impressive.

Orders are taken by tablet, so it was comfortable with no need to feel self-conscious.

What to order at Onda in Mukho
At Onda Donghae Mukho Main Branch we ordered the octopus hotplate for two (₩58,000). It's practically the signature menu, and more than 80% of tables order it. If you can't decide, I'd simply recommend the signature octopus hotplate with beef brisket 😋

In a hotpot pan full of vegetables there's half an octopus (a whole one easily costs tens of thousands of won), two shrimp, two abalone, baekhap clams and plenty of thinly sliced beef brisket, and I felt the value for money was seriously good.. The freshness was also noticeably good. No fishy smell at all, and it's all cleanly prepared, right?

The side dishes stuck to the basics and were savory enough that my chopsticks kept going back.

Tips for eating Onda's octopus seafood hotplate
With Onda's octopus seafood hotplate, it's best to cook the octopus only lightly, make a broth with the beef brisket, and ask for extra soy sauce and wasabi for dipping. If I may offer some advice (?) and tips:
- The octopus comes blanched, so cut it right away and cook it just briefly, and it's incredibly tender.
- Soak the beef brisket in the water where the vegetable broth comes out, to make a vegetable + seafood + beef broth.
- Ask for extra soy sauce and wasabi and dip the seafood in them.
Here's Onda's octopus seafood hotplate as it starts to boil. There were lots of vegetables, especially bean sprouts, so the texture was great, and the broth tasted like really, truly delicious soupy tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) without any artificial seasoning.

Is the finishing fried rice worth getting?
The finishing fried rice at Onda Donghae Mukho Main Branch comes through the review event, and it's a must-eat K-dessert. Around the time we finished the seafood, we got the fried rice from the review event and completed our K-dessert fried rice.. I wish the smell and taste could come through the monitor.
It's a taste I want to eat once more. The moment I tried the fried rice my girlfriend showed off her skills on, I let out an exclamation without even realizing it..

She decorated it a little with the shrimp heads, snipped kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) with scissors, crunch crunch, and turned part of it into kkakdugi fried rice, and we finished the meal well.
