Kkachisan Japanese diner: cube steak bowl eaten sushi-style, Hekbap
In short
Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is a Japanese home-style restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building near Exit 3 of Kkachisan Station in Gangseo, Seoul, serving rice bowls, curry, soba, udon and ramen in one place. The blogger, a dietitian, ate the Hekbap cube steak bowl sushi-style instead of mixing it as the in-store guide suggests, and added kelp vinegar to the mazesoba with chicken karaage set to change its flavor. With a bright, clean dining room and window counter seats for one, Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is a solid pick for eating alone near Kkachisan Station.

Hi, I'm Pokpok Bunny, a dietitian.🐰 Today I found a place near Kkachisan Station for a meal that's light but still filling. It's Hekbap Kkachisan Branch, where the menu runs from Japanese home-style rice bowls to soba and ramen, so deciding what to eat is a happy problem. It's a great fit when you want to try a range of Japanese home-style dishes in one place.

Hekbap Kkachisan Branch: location, hours and parking
Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is on the 2nd floor of a building at 35 Gangseo-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. Walk 99 m straight from Exit 3 of Kkachisan Station and you'll see it right away on your right. It's open daily 11:00–21:00, with a break from 15:00 to 16:30 and last order at 20:30.
🚗 There's no dedicated parking lot, so I'd recommend public transport.

The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, and the menu is neatly posted all the way up the stairs, so your mouth starts watering before you even get in.

Hekbap menu and how to order
You sit down and order on a tablet (T-order). The Japanese home-style menu is really varied, with rice bowls, curry, soba, udon and ramen, so it works even if your group wants different things.

[🤔 Pokpok Bunny's picks!] After much deliberation among so many dishes, today's picks are:
- Cube steak bowl
- Mazesoba with chicken karaage (fried chicken) set

As soon as the food arrived on a generous, tidy single tray, I was in a great mood.
How do you eat the cube steak bowl for the best flavor?
The proper way to eat the cube steak bowl here is not to mix everything like Korean bibimbap, but to place the steak on the rice like sushi. The 'how to enjoy your rice bowl' guide on the table says so!
🥩 Eating it as instructed, I could fully taste the salty beef and the crunchy vegetables (king oyster mushroom, onion, shishito peppers and more) on their own. Since you don't mix the sauce through all the rice, you naturally keep your sodium in check, and you still get good-quality protein from the beef. A smart way to eat!
Mazesoba with karaage set: adding kelp vinegar
Mazesoba (brothless mixed noodles) is a dish where you break the egg yolk and mix it with minced beef, scallions, shredded seaweed and other toppings. Halfway through, add a few drops of the 'kelp vinegar' on the table and the flavor changes completely. 🍜 Mixing the rich yolk with the toppings is the charm of mazesoba!
I especially love aromatics like garlic and scallions, and there were plenty, so the flavor was amazing. Try adding a few drops of kelp vinegar halfway through! The vinegar adds freshness and brings out the hidden umami.
Karaage side and the fried rice cake banchan
🍗 The chicken karaage in the mazesoba set was a textbook crispy-outside, juicy-inside. The nicely fried, savory coating and tender chicken paired perfectly with the mazesoba.
The basic side dish is a cute little 'fried rice cake' (tteok), lightly coated in what I think is grain syrup (?), and it was a lovely sweet finish at the end of the meal.
Hekbap atmosphere and solo seating
The inside of Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is bright, clean and well decorated, with bright lighting and wood tones. That combination is really calming.

The tables are well spaced, and above all there's a counter seat for one where you eat facing the window, so I don't think there's a better place for a solo meal near Kkachisan Station.

Whether you come alone or with a friend, it's a cozy space that's perfect for a light, happy meal.
Pokpok Bunny's final verdict 🐰
A great Kkachisan Station restaurant where you can enjoy varied Japanese home-style food in a clean, hygienic space! From rice bowls that bring out the ingredients' own flavor to mazesoba bursting with umami, it's a hearty, can't-go-wrong place whoever you bring. Highly recommended.
