In short
Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is a room-style aged sashimi izakaya on the 3rd floor of a building on Samil-daero 19-gil near Jongak Station in Jongno, Seoul. Booked through Naver, the meal was the small aged sashimi platter, blue crab roe stew and red crab innard cream croquettes with beer, and the sweet shrimp and the roe-packed broth stood out most. Jongak Station sashimi restaurant: Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch 🚩Location: 16 Samil-daero 19-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea, 3rd floor ⏳Hours: 11:00–24:00

Hi, I'm Hangni, doing whatever I want with my life haha. I was out in Seoul recently and finally made it to an izakaya serving aged sashimi that I'd wanted to try for ages — Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch!

The restaurant is on the 3rd floor, and the moment you walk in there's an aquarium right there — it gave off this aura, you know? Like, oh, this place is serious about what they do...!

What is the room-style izakaya Suksseong Susan Jongno like inside?
Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch has the space divided into separate rooms, so you can eat privately without worrying about other tables. The interior vibe is genuinely great — overall it feels quite upscale?

I'd booked ahead through Naver, and when I arrived they already had a table set up for me. I'd definitely recommend booking through Naver first! Ordering was via table order, so I could browse the menu and order comfortably. And on one side they had chargers of every type — such a nice touch..!

The complimentary side dishes were peas and soft tofu, which I love~

Instead of a flashy spread, it's a clean lineup that's good for whetting your appetite! We ordered first, and since we were thirsty, started with a beer each.

That day we ordered a small aged sashimi platter and crab roe stew. And as a side, red crab innard cream croquettes too! But once the food started coming out one by one, the visuals were something else lol. The table was completely full...!!!

What fish comes on Suksseong Susan's small aged sashimi platter?
Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch's small aged sashimi platter has a nice variety of different fish, so it's fun trying a piece of each. Just the glossy, shiny look of it already earned a passing grade..!

Being aged sashimi, it was genuinely chewy... Fresh raw fish is delicious too, but that distinctive chewy texture of aged sashimi is something else, right!? This is exactly what aged sashimi should be, I thought. If you're looking for a great aged sashimi spot in Jongno, I think you'll love this style!

There was also sweet shrimp, and true to its name, it's just sweet, sweet.. The plump, sweet flavor really came through, and paired with beer it was just perfect haha.

With the vibe this good and the side dishes this good, the drinks just kept flowing — pure magic..

Why the blue crab roe stew is the dish to order
I ordered the crab roe stew at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch because it felt like we needed some kind of broth too. This is genuinely.. why wouldn't you eat this? Please, try it lol.

I'm not even sure how many crabs went in, but there were quite a few small crabs packed in there.

And since the crabs were carrying roe, the broth flavor was genuinely refreshing...! Both the roe and the tomalley were completely packed in, so if you feel like you need a broth to go with drinks, I'd highly recommend this. Eating the aged sashimi and then taking a sip of the crab roe stew broth just resets everything!

Red crab innard cream croquettes at Suksseong Susan
Honestly, the sashimi and crab roe stew alone were already plenty filling, you know? But I'm a fried food lover, so there was no way I was skipping the croquettes lol. Red crab innard cream croquettes?! I was genuinely amazed eating them — how can a croquette be this soft inside and this crispy outside haha.
