This weekend I took off on a trip to Buyeo! I was starving before heading to Jeongnimsa Temple Site~ I really needed a hearty lunch after a while! I knew there was a place in Buyeo that made amazing dakgaejang (spicy chicken stew)! I figured this was the perfect chance to finally go~ When I arrived, sure enough, it was packed! I finally made it to the famous Baekje dakgaejang! The gorgeous, sleek glass-walled building caught my eye from far away! Seeing the big banner at the entrance calling itself the #1 restaurant in Buyeo got me excited~ I couldn't wait to see what kind of deep broth flavor it would show!

A place run under the owner's own face and name has to be a real, genuine restaurant, right? That's proof of confidence in the food!

On weekends the wait really gets long! The parking lot in front of the restaurant fills up fast, so it's pretty tricky to find a spot~ Here's a stress-free parking tip! Using the nearby Nonghyup Hanaro Mart parking lot makes your meal much more comfortable!

How long is the weekend lunch wait, and what is the dining room like?

Baekje Dakgaejang & Chogyeguksu Buyeo was fully packed with not a single empty seat at weekend lunch. Walking in, the first thing you see is a long wooden bench where you can sit comfortably while you wait!

While waiting, I looked closely at the wall and found it covered with black-and-white photos full of visitors' happy smiles~

Turns out there's a receipt photo booth! To leave a memory of our Buyeo trip, we happily took a shot too~ The free-printed, nostalgic-feeling receipt was a small joy that kept the wait from feeling boring at all!

If you ever run low on delicious side dishes, there's a very tidy self-serve bar on one side of the restaurant you can use anytime~

The highlight here — the unlimited makgeolli station! I poured myself a nice cool cup of makgeolli, and my partner, who was driving, chose the sweet plum tea instead~

Finally, our ordered dishes arrived! The overwhelming visual filling the table made my mouth water even before I took a bite~ The neatly and generously set spread was filling just to look at! Time to start the feast?

Dakgomtang: half broth, half chicken, for 10,000 won

My ordered dakgomtang (chicken soup) finally arrived! The clear, milky broth was truly a work of art~ That's the dignity of a restaurant near Lotte Buyeo Outlet!

I gave it a stir with my spoon and was surprised! Crunchy mung bean sprouts and tender chicken meat~ It was so generous it was practically half broth, half ingredients! This huge amount for just ₩10,000? Truly worthy of high praise as a great Buyeo restaurant! The clean, mild broth flavor was excellent too!

At first I enjoyed the dakgomtang's original flavor, then tried adding minced cheongyang chili per the tip! The kick that spreads through the broth is so good~ The slightly spicier broth is really appealing! Adding cheongyang chili midway is a must~ I finished the whole bowl in no time!

Dakgaejang: spicy, rich broth with no heaviness

Next up was the dakgaejang! The moment I saw the deep, red broth, I was sure this would be amazing!

I scooped up a heaping chopstick-full — chicken and vegetables just kept coming, and I was stunned by the huge amount of ingredients~ The spicy, deeply simmered broth had a clean finish with no heaviness at all! A truly satisfying, rich flavor that clears your head~

Dunking white rice into the broth, the fresh chicken's unique savoriness and sweetness soaked into every grain — absolutely fantastic! Adding minced cheongyang chili halfway through gives a perfect spicy kick! Be sure to add it midway to enjoy both flavors~

New tojong dak muchim: a mountain of spicy chicken for 10,000 won

Finally, the new menu item I'd been looking forward to — native chicken muchim (spicy chicken salad)! The mountain-like portion genuinely made me gasp~ This much food for just ₩10,000? A dish with perfect value for money! My mouth was watering before I even took a bite~

One bite in, the spicy-tangy sauce woke up my appetite and blended in perfectly! The chewy texture of the chicken was insane~ Crunchy vegetables and the savory aroma of sesame oil filled my mouth, and I couldn't stop reaching for my chopsticks! A flavor that cuts right through any heaviness!

Mixing in the accompanying white somyeon (thin wheat noodles) and taking a big bite together with the chicken was as good as any dedicated bibim-guksu (mixed noodle) restaurant! The sweet-and-tangy sauce soaked into the chewy noodles perfectly~ A flawless pairing with makgeolli too!

Piling the chicken muchim onto warm white rice and eating it like a rice bowl was also fantastic! The spicy sauce is a real rice-thief~ The delicious umami filling my mouth had me finishing a whole bowl of rice before I knew it! A perfect culinary experience on this Buyeo trip~
