Where is Haekbap Amsa, and what kind of restaurant is it?

Haekbap Amsa (핵밥 암사점) is a rice bowl and ramen restaurant on the 2nd floor of the building right in front of Amsa Station. I went last weekend with my kid! I was hoping for a hearty meal, and yep, I was super happy with it. It's right by the station, so getting there is really easy.

The single-bowl rice dishes come in generous portions, so you can have a filling meal. They have ramen too, and I liked that there's a good mix of noodle and rice dishes!

Is Haekbap Amsa good for eating alone?

The inside of Haekbap Amsa was kept neat and clean, and the food came out fairly quickly after ordering. Eating alone looked easy here, and I also thought it would be a good place to come with friends or family and share a few dishes.

How was the tonkotsu ramen in Set 2?

This time I ordered Haekbap Amsa's Set 2, which is a pork rib rice bowl plus tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen, and added a Western-style giant pork cutlet. The combination was great and I was totally satisfied~ The tonkotsu broth was rich without being too heavy, so it went really well with the rice bowl. A cheese rice cake comes with it too, but it hasn't come out yet in this photo, haha.

The tonkotsu broth was so refreshing and savory, with the deep flavor of pork stock, and the noodles were cooked just right, which I liked.

There was quite a lot of meat in it, and it was clean-tasting with no gamey smell, so good😆 If I'd only had the rice bowl it might have felt a little lacking, but eating it with the warm ramen broth made a really good combo. If you like rich broth, I think you'll be happy with this.

How big is the Western-style giant pork cutlet?

The Western-style giant pork cutlet (gyeongyangsik donkkaseu) I added at Haekbap Amsa was really big, just like the name says. I was surprised!

The breading was fried nice and crisp, and the meat inside was juicy with a great texture. Best of all, it was generously covered in a sweet, rich Western-style sauce that reminded me of the old-fashioned pork cutlets I ate as a kid.

The side combo of pickled radish, kimchi, soup and wasabi was the best too!

Even for a Western-style cutlet it was thicker than I expected, so it's filling, haha.

Is Haekbap Amsa kid-friendly?

Haekbap Amsa also has separate children's tableware, so you can eat comfortably even with a baby🤗

Is the marinated pork rib rice bowl too strongly seasoned?

The pork rib rice bowl at Haekbap Amsa had a sweet-salty sauce that soaked in nicely, so it was really good with rice.

The meat was tender rather than tough, which went well with the rice, and the sauce soaked all the way down through the rice, so I enjoyed it down to the last spoonful.

The sauce isn't harsh, so it's a flavor everyone from kids to grandparents can enjoy! Not too salty or overpowering, easy for anyone to eat, and the smoky grilled flavor that comes through here and there made it even tastier.

The cheese rice cake dessert in the Set 2 meal

After the meal, finishing with the cheese rice cake that comes with Set 2 as dessert was satisfying!

It's a mild, nutty, lightly sweet cheese rice cake and it was so good😍

Who is Haekbap Amsa best for?

Haekbap Amsa, a good eat in Amsa, was satisfying thanks to its generous portions and varied menu. Eating solo is of course no problem, and with separate baby chairs and baby tableware, it's perfect for families with little ones too. If you want big portions and a wide choice of dishes, it's worth a visit. Next time I'd like to try the other rice bowls and the udon too.
