In short

Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch is a minari pork belly BBQ restaurant on Beomgol-ro 145beon-gil in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. On a reserved visit near closing time, two people shared 2 servings of pork belly and a 3,000 won minari doenjang stew (soybean paste stew). Location and hours of Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch

Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch (천포회관 의정부본점) is at 21 Beomgol-ro 145beon-gil, 1st floor, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it is open every day from 11:00 to 23:00. There is parking, and it takes group visits and reservations. They also say the high oil price relief subsidy can be used here.

What does the exterior look like?

The Uijeongbu branch is known for its tiled roof and pretty lighting. The lights look lovely and the tiled roof gives it real character, so I thought it was beautiful. They also have a lunch special, so it seemed perfect for an office worker's lunch.

A spacious interior with customers even near closing time

The inside is roomy and clean, and there are seats further in too, so it looked good for family gatherings or group meetups. We went almost at closing time, and there were still quite a few customers.

Cheonpo Hoegwan menu and lunch special hours

The signature menu items are pork belly and beef rolls, and kimchi and minari (water dropwort) are unlimited refills. The lunch specials are a bulgogi set, sundae gopchang hot pot (blood sausage and intestine stew), and bulgogi in a stone pot, all served with freshly cooked pot rice!

The lunch special runs from 11:00 to 15:00 (public holidays included), so it's perfect for office workers on weekdays, and since it even applies on holidays, it's a good lunch option then too 👍

We ordered the signature pork belly for 2, a minari doenjang stew, and 2 bowls of rice.

What does the basic table setting look like when you reserve?

We booked ahead, and they had the basic setting ready for us. The grill was already laid with minari, shredded scallions and kimchi, and there were also minari and lettuce wraps, one sauce per person, and kimchi pancake batter!! They say they use only domestic Haenam cabbage and fresh minari.

How to make the minari kimchi pancake at the self-serve corner

At Cheonpo Hoegwan you make and fry the minari kimchi pancake yourself at the self-serve corner! The instructions for frying it are clearly posted there too.

  • Add plenty of cooking oil to the frying pan!
  • Let the pan heat up
  • Pour in the batter and fry it until tasty
  • When you're done, put everything back and wipe up with a tissue

I fried it until golden and took a bite, and the kimchi was well-soured, just the right state for a kimchi pancake!

Yukhoe and snail ssamjang come as free side dishes

Cheonpo Hoegwan gives you yukhoe and snail ssamjang as side dishes!!! Oh my, I was already so happy when the yukhoe came out, but the snail ssamjang that arrived bubbling, freshly boiled, made me even happier.

2 servings of pork belly: how thick is it?

A staff member put the pork belly straight on the grill for us, and wow.. the thickness is no joke, right?? Look at that color, lean meat and fat mixed just right.. I was gulping down drool as it went on, haha.

How does the ₩3,000 minari doenjang stew taste?

The minari doenjang stew is ₩3,000. This is ₩3,000?? Wow, what a bargain!!! The portion is huge, with minari on top so you get that minari aroma, the broth is really rich, and the meat inside was tender and perfect. It was the best doenjang stew I've had recently.

Pork belly and minari wraps: how they tasted

The pork belly is thick, so the texture is great and the juices burst out. My partner cut it into bite-size pieces for me, which was so convenient, haha. I was busy taking photos the whole time, hehe. Anyway, a round of applause for my partner who grilled it so well!

I dipped the meat deep into the sauce and ate it on its own, and wow... the juices burst out!! The sauce was pleasantly sweet and so good. Then I had a wrap with minari and this was insane too T_T It's so good T_T I already love minari, and you know pork belly plus minari is a never-fail combo, right? The meat quality is good, so it tasted even better 👍
