Ansan unlimited eel restaurant with chicken neck: Songnim Bok Jangeo

Craving eel after work, so off to Wongok-dong

Today’s Ansan Wongok-dong favorite is Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel Unlimited Refill Wongok Branch (송림복장어 민물장어 무한리필 원곡점)! You know eel is totally, totally diet food, right? Haha. I suddenly wanted something delicious for dinner, so I made last-minute plans with my partner while I was at work. I debated between hinoki cypress-steamed food and eel, then chose eel! After work, my partner and I headed to Songnim Bok Jangeo in Wongok-dong.

First, the exterior! The sign says “unlimited refill! ₩29,900.” Unlimited eel for ₩29,900—seriously, isn’t that so affordable...??? At most other places, one serving would be in the ₩20,000 range..! I snapped one photo and swooshed straight inside.

Maybe because it had not been open long, the whole place felt clean and bright. It was a little early, so there were not many customers at first, but after about 10 minutes? Suddenly everyone came pouring in! We successfully claimed a table near the self-service bar 😎

Here’s the menu. It’s an unlimited-refill place, but they also sell takeaway items? The eel soup sounds delicious too...🥹 It would be so nice to come at lunch and polish off a bowl of eel soup, but the restaurant is a little far from my office for that... such a shame...🥲

First up, the basic table setting! There is an additional ₩3,000 table-setting fee for this! But it includes not only eel, but pork belly and chicken neck too, so isn’t that a total bargain? Hahahaha 😋 At first, they bring you small portions of the meat and eel. Try them, then go get more of whichever ones you want!

And...!! They give you bokbunja-ju (Korean black raspberry wine), which pairs so well with eel, as part of the basic setting!!! Isn’t that amazing? They set out Sejong bokbunja-ju right from the start..🩷 Of course, I drove, so I could not drink it...🥲 Sob sob... If I had known they served this, I would have taken public transit.. ㅠㅠ

Getting more eel and chicken neck from the self-service bar to grill

This is the self-service bar. It is stocked with heaps of eel, pork belly, pork neck, and more that all look great quality at a glance.

My partner was grilling away 🥹🥹🥹 They grilled the eel and chicken neck first.. It looked so delicious that I was already basically passed out.. Honestly, I did not even like eel that much? But the moment I saw the photos ㅠㅠ it suddenly looked so good... Looking at it again while writing this, I seriously want to eat it again.....🥲🥲

We also ordered one buckwheat bibim makguksu (spicy mixed buckwheat noodles) and happily ate it with the eel. The sauce was really rich! The eel suddenly looks like there is much less, right? We were eating so frantically.. haha, I could not even take photos and we immediately put the next batch on the grill hehe.

We brought back more eel and chicken neck and grilled again. The chicken neck was so springy and really delicious?!

We made wraps with chicken neck topped with pickled onion and green-onion kimchi, then popped a bite of eel topped with white kimchi, sauce, and ginger straight into our mouths. Sob.. it was so rich and delicious..🥹

^////^ While we were eating what had already been grilled, more eel had cooked in no time..💕

Dip it in sauce, top it with ginger, yum 😋 It is super delicious even just heavily dipped in sauce!! My partner dislikes ginger, so they ate it only like this. I tried it and it was surprisingly pretty good hehe.

Still, eel really tastes best with ginger on top 😋

Clearing the final batch, cleanly

For real, real, we grilled one last batch and cleared it all... I truly thought my stomach was going to burst, but the owner came over and said it was a shame to eat so little at an unlimited-refill place hahaha. But we really, really ate a lot~~!! With our bellies completely full, Songnim Bok Jangeo in Ansan Wongok-dong gave us such a delicious, satisfying dinner! Next time, I need to come for eel soup at lunch 😋😋 Songnim Bok Jangeo would be great for a company dinner too!
