Hongdae chicken pub terrace with ₩3,900 cocktails: Goobne Red Road

In short

Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is a late-night chicken pub with outdoor terrace seating, filling a whole building on Jandari-ro 2-gil in Mapo, Seoul, 580m from Exit 3 of Hapjeong Station. The writer ordered an Original Goobne Chicken double portion for takeout on the first floor and ate it right away at a second-floor table, where the scored breast meat came out golden with a light smoky note. With a ₩3,900 cocktail event drawing a terrace full of foreign visitors and chicken baked instead of fried, Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is an easy stop for chicken and a beer until 2 or 3am.

₩3,900 cocktails: the terrace packed with foreign visitors

It was busy — with dine-in and delivery both — more than you'd expect from a newly opened spot. With cocktails at ₩3,900 as part of an event, it felt like every foreigner enjoying beer, cocktails and chicken in the neighborhood had gathered here~~ Goobne Chicken has truly become K-Food!

A hip late-night Hongdae restaurant: Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road

Red and black: what the second floor looks like

Since this stretch of Hongdae is called Red Road, Goobne Chicken's interior is all in red tones. I visited at night, and just like the street outside, it was hard to tell whether I was in Korea or abroad — conversations in English and Chinese were everywhere, with English-speaking customers overwhelmingly dominant, to the point I had to double-check this was really a newly opened Goobne.

The second floor's interior was equally bold in red and black. It's hip, but so intense that I think it'll especially draw the people who love that vibe.

Waiting for the Goobne Chicken order

Table on the second floor while waiting for the chicken order

I ordered the Original Goobne Chicken double portion on the first floor and headed up to the second floor. After soaking in the fresh energy of the foreigners gathered at the first-floor bar and terrace, I went upstairs to wait for the chicken — and found yet another atmosphere entirely.

Self-service corner with water, wet wipes, and pickled radish

At the self-service corner there's water, wet wipes, pickled radish, small plates, forks and so on — just grab what you need. Even in the middle of the rush, staff kept coming up to check on things and restock.

The simplest is still the best: Original Goobne Chicken

Original Goobne Chicken double portion, ordered to go and eaten upstairs

The Original chicken had just come off the grill — too hot to pick up with bare hands. I'd ordered it as takeout, but decided to eat it upstairs while it was still hot. Haha.

Standard pickled radish and spicy sauce served with the chicken

Pickled radish and spicy sauce came standard. I'm someone who thinks Goobne's plain original is the best version, so I eat it happily without dipping into the sauce at all. Let's see how tasty and light this batch at Hongdae Red Road turned out~

Golden-grilled piece of Original chicken

I didn't realize just how hot it'd be to pick up by hand — haha — I was just too eager to dig in fast! My favorite dry, meaty chicken breast, grilled golden with a slight smoky char — passed the first-bite test with flying colors, haha. Even within the same franchise, the taste varies branch to branch, so it's not all the same Goobne experience!

Soft drumstick meat from the Original chicken

I let the drumstick go, haha — soft, textured thigh meat is for family members who love dark meat. In the end my hands got too hot and I dropped the chicken, so I quickly grabbed the self-service corner supplies. Silly me, haha, I could've just used a fork... I'd already had dinner and went late at night, but apparently a late-night craving for chicken is a real thing, haha. Maybe it's also because I just love that Goobne isn't deep-fried in oil... ahem, ahem, haha.

The breast had a light score cut into it, which grilled up even tastier. No wonder I ended up eating my takeout order right there on the spot, haha. The chicken had just the right amount of meat, so the portion size felt right too — with foreigners chatting away happily late at night and the event going on, it was a refreshingly fun visit to this Hongdae restaurant, Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road.

For a light beer with oil-free, non-fried Goobne Chicken, this Hongdae restaurant's outdoor terrace is a great choice~~ Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is also handy for takeout or delivery to enjoy comfortably at home or the office! It's tasty and reasonably priced for a hip Hongdae pub, making it a good spot to visit with friends or on a date for good chicken and a fun atmosphere.
