Aged sashimi pub for round two near Nonhyeon Station: Sanhocho

In short

Sanhocho Nonhyeon is an aged sashimi pub on Hakdong-ro 2-gil near Nonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul, said to prepare and age seasonal seafood that arrives from Tongyeong every morning. After a meat dinner, the writer came to Sanhocho Nonhyeon for a second round and shared the ₩68,000 "End Your Dilemma" Sanhocho Platter with soju in its outdoor street-pub atmosphere, and the variety of aged sashimi kept it tasty to the last piece despite a full stomach. For a Nonhyeon Station night out where one aged sashimi platter settles the menu question, Sanhocho Nonhyeon is a solid choice.

If you're looking for a place near Nonhyeon Station to have a drink with fresh seafood, Sanhocho (산호초) is worth recommending. It was one of the most satisfying places I've visited recently: an aged sashimi specialist that trims and ages seasonal seafood arriving from Tongyeong every morning.

Sanhocho Nonhyeon atmosphere and outdoor seating

Vintage-style interior of Sanhocho Nonhyeon

Sanhocho Nonhyeon is a Nonhyeon Station pub with an eye-catching vintage interior. It feels homey from the outside, and it isn't flashy or overwhelming, just a comfortable place for a drink. It works for a casual chat with friends, and it's a fine choice for a date too.

Atmosphere and seating at Sanhocho Nonhyeon

The open-air seating area (yajang, an outdoor-style drinking spot) makes it even more appealing. It was open and airy, so I could drink without feeling cramped, and sashimi tasted even better with a cool breeze. It feels different from sitting inside, so I'd recommend the outdoor seats on a nice day.

Is aged sashimi still good as a second round after meat?

That day we had a big meat dinner first and came to Sanhocho Nonhyeon for round two. I figured I was too full to eat much, but as soon as the sashimi arrived, that thought disappeared. It was very fresh, and the variety kept it from getting boring, so I enjoyed it to the end.

What comes in the ₩68,000 Sanhocho Platter?

We ordered the ₩68,000 "Worry-Ending Sanhocho Platter" (고민종결 산호초 한판). As the name says, it's a good pick when you can't decide what to order. A generous assortment of aged sashimi comes on one plate, and it looked great right away. Aging brought out the savory depth, and each fish had its own texture and flavor, which made it fun to eat.

Dipping sauces and side dishes at Sanhocho Nonhyeon

The sauces and side dishes that come as standard were good too. It's easy to focus only on the main dish, but the accompaniments matter. Sanhocho's side dishes had a crunchy texture and refreshed my mouth. They were nice to nibble between bites of sashimi and raised my overall satisfaction.

How fresh is the aged sashimi from Tongyeong seasonal seafood?

What impressed me most at Sanhocho Nonhyeon was the freshness of the seafood. They say they use seasonal seafood arriving from Tongyeong every morning, and when I ate it, the natural flavor of the ingredients really came through. It was clean with no fishy smell, and the aging added deeper flavor. If you eat sashimi often, you'll likely be even happier with the quality.

Aged sashimi with soju in a relaxed place to talk

What makes Sanhocho stand out among Nonhyeon Station pubs is how well the sashimi pairs with drinks. With soju in particular, I was really satisfied. The light but richly savory aged sashimi went well with the clean taste of soju. One bite, one sip of soju, and the glasses just kept going.

Another thing I liked was the comfortable mood. Good food matters, but at a pub the atmosphere counts for a lot. The homey vintage interior and the openness of the outdoor seating make you want to stay a while. It's moderately lively rather than rowdy, so it was good for conversation too.

Verdict: is Sanhocho Nonhyeon worth a visit?

If you want to properly enjoy fresh seasonal seafood and aged sashimi, Sanhocho near Nonhyeon Station is well worth a visit. It's good as a light second stop after dinner, and it's also satisfying if you come for seafood from the start. With its varied aged sashimi, great freshness and perfect match with soju, I'd recommend it to seafood lovers.
