I've been growing my hair out pretty diligently, but at some point it just became impossible to manage 😂 I naturally have wavy, flyaway hair, so even a little neglect makes it frizzy, and I started tying it up more often than wearing it down.

So instead of just cutting off length, we decided to keep as much of the length I'd worked so hard to grow as possible, and instead correct the flyaway sections and hair flow to tidy up the overall silhouette.

This is the part of the volume slick perm at Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch that I was especially happy with. The director really examined my hair from every angle in great detail. It wasn't a "you've got wavy hair, let's straighten it" and done kind of thing.

She checked exactly where it flared out, which direction each section grew, why my crown looked flat, and how the hair around my face needed to fall to look natural — and corrected each part individually.

I especially wanted to calm down my waviness without having my whole head pressed flat against my scalp. My crown volume had always been a sore point, and that's exactly where she added volume during the correction.

So once it was finished, the frizz and flyaway spots typical of wavy hair calmed down, but my hair didn't look limp or flat. That's exactly what I wanted: neat, but not flat.

You can see lush green trees through the full glass windows, and the view is genuinely great to sit by 🌿 A perm or magic straightening treatment usually means sitting for a pretty long time. But this space doesn't feel cramped at all, and it's easy to zone out looking at the greenery outside, so even a long treatment didn't feel as tiring as I expected.

With a drink in hand, staring at the green view... I came in for a haircut but somehow it felt like I came in for some alone time to relax haha. This time, along with the volume slick perm, I also got a clinic treatment. Since I've decided to keep growing my hair, I need to actually take care of my hair condition, not just let the length grow. And while I was there for the clinic, I discovered this.

A massage chair lol. My hair got a clinic treatment while I got a massage in the chair... isn't this basically what being rich feels like?

It was brief, but I really felt like a rich person for a moment lol. Proper healing time.

I saw somewhere recently that the real marker of being rich these days is long, healthy hair and good skin. Hearing that, it kind of makes sense lol. Now that I've beaten the short-bob urge, I'm going to put in more effort to become "rich" myself 🙋🏻‍♀️

How the volume slick perm turned out on wavy, flyaway hair

Ta-da. You can see the length is almost exactly the same, right? This is the person who came in planning to chop it into a short bob lol. But even with the length kept, the overall look is way neater.

What I especially loved was that it doesn't look forcibly flattened straight. The frizzy, flyaway parts are tidied up, and the line falling around my face looks much more natural. Most of all, instead of pressing my crown flat too, she kept volume where it was needed, so I love the overall silhouette.

But as pretty as it looks, after a few days I realized what I was actually most satisfied with was something else. My morning hair routine got so much shorter. Before, getting ready meant blow-drying while pressing this part down, straightening that part... and if it still didn't look right, I'd often just tie it up and head out anyway.

Now blow-drying itself is easy, and since the basic shape is already tidy, styling is genuinely simple. That's a huge change for me. A pretty hairstyle matters, but a hairstyle you can easily recreate every single morning is truly a good hairstyle. Mid-treatment, I suddenly got curious. Director Geudaero (그대로). Such an unusual name, right? It kind of sounds like the name of a main character in a coming-of-age manhwa lol. So I finally asked.

Apparently her mentor thought highly of her and, wanting her to keep doing well, gave her the designer name "Idaero" (이대로), meaning "just like this, keep going." And she really did stay true to that path, so now she goes by "Geudaero" (그대로), with just one syllable changed.

Once I heard the meaning behind the name, it oddly connected to what I felt during the treatment. Rather than just processing hair by the manual, she kept examining texture, head shape, and hair flow, correcting each part in different ways — it really had this... scent of a craftsperson who's spent a long time mastering one path.

I think that's exactly why I always feel how meticulous Director Geudaero is whenever she does my hair. Thank you for making my hair so satisfying again this time, seriously. I think I'm just going to settle in and trust Director Geudaero from now on.

Beating the short-bob urge and growing the hair out again

So in the end, I went in that day planning to cut my hair into a short bob... and came out having kept it lol. I used to think that if hair got unmanageable, you just had to cut it. But this time, once my hair texture was properly identified and corrected, it got so much neater even though the length stayed the same.

My wavy, flyaway hair is tamed, my once-flat crown has volume now, and on top of that, blow-drying got so much easier, cutting down my morning prep time — that's what I'm most satisfied with. Having survived this round, I guess I can keep growing it out, right? haha This time I'm not just growing length blindly, I'm going to grow it out healthy and pretty.
