Beef rib BBQ near Busan City Hall Station: rib set at Mudeung Sogalbi

I went to Mudeung Sogalbi Yeonsan City Hall branch (무등소갈비 연산시청점), a tasty, good-value beef restaurant near City Hall Station in Busan! I went with my mom and dad, and both of them enjoyed it, so I'd recommend it if you're looking for a beef place in Yeonsan 🐮

Exterior and interior: is it good for a group dinner?

Mudeung Sogalbi is easy to reach, a 7-minute walk from exit 7 of City Hall Station. It's near Busan City Hall and the police agency, so I think it would also be a good spot for government workers' evening company dinners 🍻

The inside is set up with tables for 4, but it looked like up to 8 people could eat at one table. When I visited, a group of 8 plus a baby was holding a wedding invitation gathering. The seating is spaced widely and clean, so it looked great for company dinners or gatherings like that!

The side dishes are refillable at the self-serve bar, which was convenient. The spicy green chili pickles (ttaengcho jangajji) were especially good, so I went back for them several times.

They have baby chairs, and there's an event where you get steamed egg with shrimp if you write a Naver review, so keep that in mind 🥚

How to order at Mudeung Sogalbi Yeonsan City Hall branch

The menu has a well-put-together rib meat set, and the à la carte items you can order in 100g units are yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), sogalbi-sal (beef short rib meat), premium thin-sliced rib and LA flower rib. The marinated rib and the Mudeung king rib are ordered in 300g units!

Here's what the three of us ordered that day.

• Doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste stew with rice)
• Bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles)

The side dishes that came out go well with beef, and the onion and the spicy green chili pickles were so good that I ate a lot of them! Rice comes out too so you can make sushi, which means you can make beef rib sushi later 🐮

The rib set: how do the raw and marinated ribs taste?

Mudeung Sogalbi's rib set is 300g of raw beef short rib meat plus 300g of marinated beef short rib meat. I wanted to try both kinds, and ordering the set is better value, so I recommend the set for your first order.

We were told to grill the raw ribs first, so grill grill • • When the juices started coming out, my mouth watered 🥺 Maybe because it's fresh beef, it wasn't tough at all and was tender.

On top of that, every time the owner brought meat, he gave a brief explanation plus a friendly tip on how to eat it deliciously, which put me in a good mood all evening haha

The marinated ribs were good too: the marinade isn't too sweet and the natural flavor of the beef really comes through. They say they tenderize the meat with plenty of Naju pear and mix it on the spot with Uiseong garlic 🧄 If you visit Mudeung Sogalbi, definitely try both kinds of ribs!!

I made beef rib sushi with the rice that came with the meal, and the rice was well seasoned too, so it was absolutely delicious 🍣

Are the Korean beef yukhoe and brisket worth ordering?

Yukhoe is something I always order at a beef restaurant! Mudeung Sogalbi's Korean beef yukhoe was fresh and seasoned just right, and I scraped the plate clean... If you think you'll get tired of just ribs, I recommend the yukhoe too! I ordered 200g, but 100g is also possible, so if there are only two of you, try it as a small taste 🐂

I was thinking about ordering more ribs, but my dad said he wanted brisket, so we ordered the Korean beef brisket, and dipping it in the brown sauce made it even better! By the way, the self-serve bar has the spicy green chili pickles, which were my number one side dish, so I recommend eating them together.

Meal dishes: doenjang sul-bap and bibim naengmyeon

The doenjang sul-bap I ordered as a meal had plenty of beef ribs in a rich, savory broth. The portion was big too, and after the doenjang sul-bap plus naengmyeon for three people, we nearly burst.

The bibim naengmyeon was spicier than I expected, which was nice for cutting the richness at the end. I think it would have been even better with the ribs, so next time I plan to order it from the start haha

From the ribs to the doenjang sul-bap side, everything was delicious, so this is a real beef rib gem that I'd happily revisit on my own dime!
