Suyeong Korean BBQ rice ball set for two, 35,000 won: Paldo Ppyeogui

In short

Paldo Ppyeogui Suyeong Main Branch is a spicy marinated bone grill restaurant on Gampo-ro 102beon-gil in Suyeong-gu, Busan. After work, two friends ordered the rice ball set in the small size (2 servings, 35,000 won) at the mild spice level and ate through five side dishes, self-assembled rice balls and Bushman bread. The mild level is about as hot as Shin Ramyun, exactly as the staff described, so it works even for people who are weak with spicy food.

Visiting Paldo Ppyeogui Suyeong Main Branch, a Suyeong restaurant

You know those days after work when you just crave something spicy? That's how I felt this time, so I went with a friend to Paldo Ppyeogui Suyeong Main Branch, looking for something to blow off stress.

It's already a well-known Busan restaurant in the Suyeong area, so I'd been curious about it for a while — and eating there in person, I got why so many people come.

How much is the rice ball set? 35,000 won for two at Paldo Ppyeogui

We ordered the rice ball set in small size (2 servings) at Paldo Ppyeogui Suyeong Main Branch. The set comes with the bone grill along with self-made rice balls, and at ₩35,000 for the small size, it was a good amount for two people.

After going back and forth, we picked the mild spice level. When we asked the staff, they said it was about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, and eating it, that was exactly right. Even people who can't handle spicy food much should be able to enjoy it without trouble.

Five side dishes, steamed egg included

While waiting for the food, the side dishes came out first — coleslaw, white kimchi, pickled radish, potato salad, and steamed egg, a solid lineup.

The steamed egg in particular was fluffy and soft, pairing well with the spicy bone grill, and the white kimchi and pickled radish kept cleansing the palate in between bites.

What does the mild-spice bone grill taste like?

After a bit, the main dish — the Paldo Ppyeogui bone grill — arrived. Piled high on a big plate, it caught your eye right away. The red seasoning was coated on generously, and the smell alone made my mouth water.

There was fun in picking the meat off the bones one by one, and the meat itself was tender rather than dry. I thought mild spice would mean bland, but the seasoning flavor was actually rich and savory.

It wasn't just spicy for the sake of it — the sweetness and saltiness were balanced well, and I kept reaching for more.

Self-assembled rice balls: you mix and shape them at the table

The self-made rice balls that came with the set can't be skipped either. We put on plastic gloves and had fun making our own rice balls. Spicy bone grill and rice balls together never fail — dipping them lightly in the sauce made them even better.

Bushman bread with coleslaw and boneless meat, the combo worth copying

There was one combination that stood out the most that day: what to do with the Bushman bread that comes as a default. We split the bread in half, piled on plenty of coleslaw, added meat picked off the bones, and made it into a sandwich — and it was more delicious than expected.

The sweet bread, crunchy coleslaw, and spicy bone grill came together into something distinctive. Personally, this way of eating it stuck with me more than eating the components separately.

Inside Paldo Ppyeogui Suyeong Main Branch and who it suits

Looking around at the other tables, most were families or groups of friends. The portions were generous and the food went well with drinks, so it seemed like a good spot for a group dinner too. The place had a clean atmosphere, and the staff were friendly, so we could relax and enjoy the meal.

In hot weather like this, it's easy to lose your appetite, but the combination of spicy seasoning and tender meat made for a satisfying meal. I got to experience firsthand why so many people recommend it as a Busan restaurant.
