A day when I suddenly craved jokbal (braised pig's trotters) 🐷 After work I was trying to figure out what to eat, and honestly on days like this there's no need to agonize over the menu — it's jokbal, haha. So I headed to Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam Changwon Station Branch.

A lot of people order jokbal for delivery at home, but sometimes I just want to eat it warm, straight from the store. Jokbal especially tastes different when it's fresh and hot. So this time I decided to take my time and eat in.

What is the restaurant like inside?

Walking into Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam Changwon Station Branch, it felt like a relaxed place to eat. It has that easygoing, no-pressure jokbal-restaurant vibe, so it seemed fine for eating with a friend or for a family meal out too.

Jokbal is usually a dish for groups, so I liked how comfortable the space felt ^^ Great for group get-togethers too.

We ordered the small original wang jokbal and a small tray of makguksu.

The side dishes were clean and simple. I love mu-malaengi (dried radish strips), and they gave us a generous portion, which made me happy.

How does the small original wang jokbal taste?

The main event — jokbal! Plated so appetizingly that it got my mouth watering just from the look of it. I picked up a piece right away and the texture was great. That signature chewy jokbal skin, with the lean meat part chewing soft and tender! Eating the chewy skin together with the clean, lean meat, I thought — yeah, this is jokbal, haha.

I tried a piece of jokbal in a wrap too. Put the jokbal on lettuce, add a few extras, and eat it in one bite — the crisp vegetables and chewy jokbal come together so well, it's so, so good 💛

At a jokbal restaurant, the menu item I secretly care about is bibim makguksu. This time too, ordering just jokbal felt like something was missing, so we ordered this alongside it. Adding the tangy, spicy bibim makguksu to the chewy, clean-tasting jokbal made my palate feel so much cleaner. If I had to pick just one side dish to eat with jokbal, I think I'd pick makguksu 🤭
