Paju Lotte Outlet Korean restaurant for 1++ beef jjabagi: Bubyeokjeong

In short

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu is a North Korean-style dumpling restaurant on Jimok-ro in Paju, Gyeonggi, a short drive from Lotte Outlet and easy for a family meal before or after shopping. After always ordering the mandu hot pot on past visits, the writer tried the 1++ Korean beef jjabagi for the first time — a deep broth loaded with beef that is meant to be eaten with rice stirred in — along with bibim makguksu (spicy buckwheat noodles), kids' mandu soup and Pyeongyang mandu (dumplings). The mung bean pancake was already sold out that evening, but with free misutgaru (roasted grain drink) at the dessert zone afterwards, Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu made for a satisfying dinner with the kids.

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu's Korean beef jjabagi meal spread

My first kid's piano competition is coming up soon, so I decided to head to Lotte Outlet after a while to look at dresses too. But right as we were about to leave, my husband suddenly said he was hungry haha. So we decided to eat before the outlet and came to Bubyeokjeong.

This is already the nth time our family has visited Bubyeokjeong. The kids eat well and the adults enjoy it too, so it's a place we often pick for family meals out. Plus it's close to Paju Lotte Outlet, so it's perfect for eating before or after a shopping trip. So this time too, we came straight to Bubyeokjeong without much hesitation :)

Every time we've come to Bubyeokjeong, we've always ordered the hot pot. But this time I heard the Korean beef jjabagi was delicious, so I ordered jjabagi for the first time.

And honestly... I couldn't believe I hadn't tried the jjabagi sooner haha. With plenty of Korean beef in a rich broth, mixed with rice — yep, everything at Bubyeokjeong is delicious.

We also ordered bibim makguksu, kids' mandu soup, and Pyeongyang mandu, and everything was delicious again this time. Let me show you each dish we had that day :)

Where is Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu, and how close is Paju Lotte Outlet?

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu, a Paju Lotte Outlet-area favorite, is located at 129 Jimok-ro, Paju-si. There's a parking lot right in front of the store, and when it's full, there's a second lot a short distance down the road.

The area also has plenty of large cafés nearby, like Dirty Trunk, Malttong Donut, Brick Rouge, and Red Pipe, along with the Book City and Heyri Village, two of Paju's main outing spots — so it's a convenient place to find a meal when you're out and about nearby.

The parking area is also fairly spacious, which made it easy to visit as a family.

Dining room and self-service corner: why Bubyeokjeong is easy with kids

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu serves North Korean-style dumplings and dishes. The interior is spacious with generous spacing between tables, making it comfortable to eat with kids.

The restaurant has an overall white wood tone, giving it a clean yet cozy feel. The garden visible through the windows is nicely landscaped too, so it's nice to take a short walk after eating :)

Takeout is also available, prepared in a meal-kit style, which looked convenient for eating at home.

Next to the counter, there's a dessert zone as well as a comfortable waiting area.

After the meal, you can enjoy cool misutgaru and simple desserts. This misutgaru is a bit of a hidden gem for me — I always look forward to it whenever I come to Bubyeokjeong haha. There's also a self-service corner off to the side of the restaurant, with disposable aprons, a microwave, kids' tableware, broth, and side dishes all available for anyone who needs them.

What's on the menu at Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu

You can order easily right at the table. The meal menu includes mandu hot pot, mandu soup, and Korean beef jjabagi, along with cold buckwheat noodles, bibim makguksu, mung bean pancake, and boiled pork slices.

Table-ordering instructions and the menu board

Bubyeokjeong uses 1++ Korean beef and domestic ingredients, and their signature dishes are said to be the clear, deep broth simmered for over an hour and their mild, understated Pyeongyang-style mandu. Overall, the food leans toward bringing out the natural flavor of the ingredients rather than being heavily seasoned, so you feel comfortable afterward.

Whenever we've come to Bubyeokjeong, we've almost always gotten the mandu hot pot. With plenty of vegetables and a deep, clean broth, it's always been delicious. You can even add knife-cut noodles, so it's plenty filling even for two people.

1++ Korean beef jjabagi: a first taste, eaten with rice stirred in

Bubyeokjeong's 1++ Korean beef jjabagi is a dish with a rich, yukgaejang (spicy beef soup)-like broth loaded with beef, together with Pyeongyang-style mandu. I wanted to try something a bit different this time and ordered it for the first time — and honestly, I couldn't believe I hadn't tried it sooner haha.

First off, there's really a lot of Korean beef in it. The meat isn't dry at all, it's tender, so it's easy to scoop up along with the broth. The broth is spicy but not overly intense, with a subtle depth that keeps making you want more rice.

Mixing in a bowl of rice makes it truly filling. Pouring a little broth over the rice and eating it with the beef was so good haha. The savory taste of the Korean beef combined with the deep, rich broth went perfectly with rice. Personally, this was the most memorable dish I had that day.

Kids' mandu soup, a full meal for little ones

The kids' mandu soup comes with two large North Korean-style dumplings. The mandu are bigger than expected, so just this alone is quite filling.

The broth, in particular, is delicious. It's clear and clean, with a deep flavor drawn out from the meat, so it's tasty even just on its own. I understood right away why kids love this haha. With big dumplings and a mild broth, it's perfect as a full meal for kids.

Bibim makguksu, the spicy buckwheat noodles at Bubyeokjeong

A bowl of house-sauced bibim makguksu

The mild, house-made sauce pairs well with the clean-tasting buckwheat noodles, so your chopsticks just keep going back for more. It's not very spicy either, so it's fine to share with the kids.

Since the seasoning isn't too intense, it also goes well with the mild Pyeongyang mandu. The sauce doesn't overpower the dish, so you can still taste the clean flavor of the buckwheat noodles — I always end up ordering this whenever I come to Bubyeokjeong.

Pyeongyang mandu packed with tofu

And of course, a plate of Pyeongyang mandu is a must! Bubyeokjeong's Pyeongyang mandu have really soft wrappers and are packed full of filling.

With plenty of tofu inside, they're milder and cleaner-tasting than typical dumplings. Even without strong seasoning, you can taste the savoriness of the filling — I really like this kind of mild mandu.

They're delicious eaten on their own, or added into the broth, and also great for pairing with several other dishes like we did that day. Bubyeokjeong really does make good mandu :)

Why the mung bean pancake was sold out at dinner time

I really wanted to order the mung bean pancake too, but... unfortunately it was sold out. When you visit Bubyeokjeong in the evening, the mung bean pancake often sells out. Next time I'll go a bit earlier to make sure I get to try it!

With everyone picking a dish they wanted, the table ended up completely full.

Full table of Korean beef jjabagi, bibim makguksu, kids' mandu soup, and Pyeongyang mandu

The kids had the kids' mandu soup, I had the bibim makguksu and Korean beef jjabagi, and my husband cleaned up the mandu and jjabagi too. In the end, we finished everything with nothing left over haha.

The dessert zone: chilled misutgaru after the meal

There's another moment at Bubyeokjeong I secretly look forward to — the dessert zone after the meal haha.

The misutgaru in particular is nutty and refreshing, so delicious. Even after eating a full meal, somehow there's still room for this haha. I get excited for the misutgaru on the way out every time I eat here.

The kids filled a paper cup with hardtack biscuits and rice crackers on the way out.

With full bellies, we waddled off toward Lotte Outlet! It was near sunset and the sky was so pretty that I snapped a photo.

Is Bubyeokjeong worth a family dinner near Paju Lotte Outlet?

I'd meant to look at dresses for my daughter's competition, but once we filled our stomachs first, I somehow had more energy to shop haha. The Korean beef jjabagi I tried for the first time was really delicious, and the bibim makguksu and Pyeongyang mandu I usually love, along with the kids' mandu soup, were all satisfying as always.

In particular, the Korean beef jjabagi I tried for the first time this visit was even better than expected, so I think from now on I'll be torn between it and the hot pot whenever I come to Bubyeokjeong. What's great about Bubyeokjeong is that, since the flavors lean mild and deep rather than intense, it's easy to eat comfortably with kids.

If you're looking for a place for a family meal near Paju Lotte Outlet, give Bubyeokjeong a try. It's close by for a meal before or after outlet shopping, and parking is convenient too, making it easy to visit with kids. If you're looking for a restaurant where you can eat comfortably with your children like our family did, I think you'll be quite satisfied. Recommended!
