Gyukatsu sirloin and Kirin beer shots in Musil-dong, Wonju: Ichigyu

Ichigyu Wonju is a gyukatsu (Japanese breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on the first floor of the Lotte Cinema building in Musil-dong, Wonju. The order was gyukatsu sirloin at 19,500 won with an extra egg, a mini curry and a one-shot Kirin draft beer, with each slice grilled 7 to 8 seconds on the personal cast-iron grill and topped with Isigny salted butter. The sirloin paired with the creamy Kirin draft was the highlight of Ichigyu Wonju.

Garak-dong chicken noodle restaurant, extra-large bowl: Hanyang Dak

Hanyang Dak Kalguksu Main Branch (한양닭칼국수 본점) is a chicken kalguksu (chicken noodle soup) restaurant in Garak-dong, Songpa, Seoul, two minutes from Gyeongchal Hospital Station Exit 3. The order was spicy chicken kalguksu with scallion topping at 11,900 won plus 1,000 won for an extra-large portion, a boiled pork set for 10,900 won and galbi mandu (rib dumplings) at 6,900 won, and the perilla-seed broth was rich while the spicy kimchi from the self-bar was the real kick. Even a friend who had never liked kalguksu said Hanyang Dak Kalguksu was worth a return visit.
