Sokcho seafood restaurant with kids: crab and sashimi at Sinhaeburi

My husband, Arin, and I visited together, and we ordered the Crab + Sashimi A Set. It is recommended for two people and costs ₩150,000; it includes sashimi, snow crab, assorted side dishes, mulhoe (cold raw-fish soup), and spicy fish stew. The address is 37 Daepohang-gil, Sokcho-si.

Why I went to Sinhaeburi Hoejip with a child

Once you arrive at Daepo Port, there are so many seafood restaurants that choosing one can actually be difficult. This time, with my husband and Arin, I looked first for food my child could eat between bites rather than somewhere serving lots of sashimi alone.

At Sinhaeburi Hoejip, several kinds of seukidasi (assorted seafood side dishes) come with the meal, so the adults could eat sashimi while Arin chose things she could eat, all at the same table. When you take a child to a seafood restaurant, that matters more than you might think.

Trying the Crab + Sashimi A Set for myself

We ordered the Crab + Sashimi A Set. It is recommended for two people and costs ₩150,000. The three of us—two adults and one child—ate it together.

The sashimi came out too. Even as the two of us kept eating, it did not feel like the plate was emptying quickly.

As my husband and I ate piece after piece, we actually said several times, “There’s more sashimi than I expected.”

More than the numbers on the menu, what stayed with me was how much food the spread felt like once it was on the table.

After the sashimi, we ate the snow crab. When I opened the leg shell, I could see the meat inside, and it was fun picking it out one piece at a time.

My husband reached for the crab more often, while I kept switching back and forth between sashimi and crab. Even though the three of us ate at different paces, it was nice that there was something to choose from.

With a child, I noticed the assorted side dishes more

Because I went with Arin, I found myself noticing each side dish that I normally would have passed over. If it had been just the two adults, we would have started with the sashimi and crab, but I looked for food for my child first.

Since a variety of things came out together, I could pick out things Arin could eat along the way. The owner’s service during the meal did not feel uncomfortable in any way, and it was easy to speak up when we needed something.

For our family, it was a comfortable meal because we did not have to split up over menu choices when bringing a child to eat sashimi and snow crab together.

The spicy fish stew I remembered to the very end

After the sashimi and snow crab, we were already quite full. But when the spicy fish stew arrived at the end, I found myself reaching for the broth again. After mostly cold dishes, the hot broth made the meal feel neatly wrapped up.

After finishing even the spicy fish stew that day, I thought, “I could come back here next time I’m in Sokcho.” What I remember from this visit is the amount of sashimi, the snow crab, the side dishes Arin could eat, and the final spicy fish stew.
