Sokcho snack shop gift boxes: yuzu oranda at Sokcho Yetgokgan

I visited Sokcho Yetgokgan, where the yuzu oranda is so delicious among all the food and snacks at Sokcho Jungang Market. Jungang Market is an essential stop whenever you visit Sokcho, right? Before dinner, people usually buy loads of food and eat it back at their accommodation. Most things are bought and eaten on the spot, but this place is even better because you can enjoy it there, then come home and eat it again. I always wander around looking for new things to eat whenever I go. This time, I spotted a place selling traditional handmade snacks and simply could not walk past. They offer samples too, and everything I tried was so good. I usually revisit the places I always go to on trips, and I think this will be one I keep coming back to as well. The snacks are delicious and the owner is kind, so I should visit often.

Sokcho Yetgokgan is at Unit 104, 38 Jungangsijang-ro 6-gil, Sokcho-si, Gangwon State, South Korea (강원특별자치도 속초시 중앙시장로6길 38 104호). It is open daily from 09:00 to 20:00, with takeout, reservations, and easy payments available.

It is on the side of Sokcho Jungang Market with lots of food. Sokcho Jungang Market has so much to eat, but it is mostly squid sundae, so handmade snacks are not actually that common. This was also a place that especially caught my eye because of the strong scent of bellflower-root syrup.

They make a wide range of handmade snacks as well as homemade syrups. The owner said the two items below are especially popular these days.

The weather is getting chilly, so my eye was drawn to things like bellflower-and-deodeok syrup and ginger syrup, which would be so lovely to drink in autumn. I still had some syrup at home, so I did not buy any this time, but I am going to pick some up next time. Seeing how properly, slowly, and richly they are made made me want to taste them.

They make everything with such care. Apparently, they are very popular too.

Apparently their buckwheat chips, sweet-pumpkin chips, and yugwa (traditional honey-coated rice puffs) are also very popular. I should try buying one new flavor every time I visit.

Since samples were available, I tasted it before buying. Everything I tried was delicious, so I wanted to buy it all.

I packed up two boxes of oranda, a traditional puffed-rice snack. Two boxes were ₩10,000, so they seemed perfect for gifting too. Once I got home, I regretted buying only two boxes. My mom said they were so delicious. I wished I had bought more to give to people around me, and I was sad I could not bring back more.

Usually there is lots of plastic wrapping, but the packaging here is so neat that it would be great to buy as a gift after visiting Sokcho.

They cut and package it neatly and beautifully, so it is easy to eat too.

I like it even more because it is not hard oranda—it is soft and chewy. Can you see it moving when I lift it? You can tell from the image that it is not hard, right? It is seriously delicious. The kind of taste I want to secretly keep all to myself!

It has such a gorgeous gloss and completely awakened my appetite—I got all my lost appetite back. It is sweet, chewy, crisp, and so delicious that I cannot stop eating it. I need to hurry back to Sokcho to buy yuzu oranda again. Next time, I should bring back about 10 boxes. They disappeared in no time. As someone who really loves yuzu oranda, I can sit down and finish a whole box just like that.
