While traveling in Gangneung, I stopped by Gangneung Sand Main Branch (강릉샌드 본점) looking for a dessert to bring back as a gift and snack. I packed the strawberry and corn flavors and tried them on the way back to my accommodation.
Where is Gangneung Sand Main Branch, and is parking available?
The address is 31 Seonggogyang-gil 5beonan-gil, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do. Parking is available, and the hours listed in the original notice were daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Last order is at 6:30 p.m., and the store may close early when the prepared stock sells out. The notice also said that the products can be purchased through Smart Store.
What is the store atmosphere like while waiting for packing?
The first thing that caught my eye after arriving was the building’s size and neat appearance.
The interior combined white with deep blue, reminding me of a Mediterranean resort. The inside also felt spacious, not just the exterior.
The store is on the second floor, reached by stairs or elevator.
While waiting for my order to be packed, I looked around and took photos. The space was wide and well decorated, so it was enjoyable to explore while waiting.
Which flavors are available, and are drinks sold too?
This time, I packed the strawberry and corn flavors.
I was even more curious to taste them after learning that they had won the Gold Award for Gangneung tourism souvenirs.
Drinks were also being sold. I chose takeout, but the store looked like a pleasant place to eat with a drink.
Is the packaging suitable as a travel gift?
The packing was ready after a short wait. The box was neat and attractive, so I thought it would be nice to give as a Gangneung travel gift.
I opened the box on the way back to my accommodation. Each sand cookie was individually wrapped, making it easy to take them out one at a time.
How different were the strawberry and corn flavors?
How sweet and tangy is the strawberry flavor?
I started with the strawberry sand cookie. Generous tangy and sweet strawberry cream filled the space between crisp, nutty cookies. The strawberry’s sourness reduced the buttery richness of the cookies, so it did not feel tiring to eat.
The strawberry aroma became more noticeable as I chewed, and by my standards, it was not overly sweet. If you like refreshing desserts, the strawberry flavor may suit you.
What flavors stand out in the corn version?
The corn flavor spread with a hearty corn aroma as soon as I took a bite. The sweet-and-salty taste combined with smooth cream, and a nutty aftertaste remained after chewing.
Both flavors had the contrast of crisp cookies and smooth cream. The strawberry stood out for its tangy aroma, while the corn left a savory impression. They were convenient snacks to take out one at a time during a trip or choose according to the recipient’s taste.
