Chuncheon tonkatsu: mixed katsu set with curry for two, Jeongseong
In short
Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch is a tonkatsu restaurant in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon, a 3-minute walk from the back gate of Gangwon National University. Two diners each ordered the Jeongseong mixed katsu set (정성모듬카츠 정식) and dipped the pork loin, tenderloin and fried shrimp in curry, salt and wasabi; Japanese curry comes with the set at no extra charge. Thanks to the well-brined loin and tenderloin, Jeongseong Katsu is a tonkatsu spot near Gangwon National University worth coming back to.

Jeongseong Katsu

Hi, this is meany. Tonkatsu — every Korean's love! I really enjoy going on tonkatsu tours, and today I'll introduce Jeongseong Katsu, a great tonkatsu spot near Gangwon National University 🙌🏻
Where is Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch, and where to park
Jeongseong Katsu, a tonkatsu favorite near Gangwon National University, is a 3-minute walk from the university's back gate.
There's a parking lot to the right of the storefront, but it tends to get crowded, so I'd recommend parking at the nearby free public lot, Dohwagol Public Parking Lot, and walking over. The address for Dohwagol Public Parking Lot is 252 Seobudaeseong-ro, Chuncheon, Gangwon, South Korea.

Ever since Jeongseong Katsu opened, I'd been thinking I had to try it. Let's go in and eat some delicious tonkatsu!

Seating and atmosphere at Jeongseong Katsu
Inside Jeongseong Katsu there's a variety of seating — sofa seats, 2-person tables, and 4-person tables. It was busy, so we sat at a 2-person table :)

Jeongseong Katsu menu
The menu ranges from katsu dishes to noodles to rice bowls. Katsu options include the Western-style king tonkatsu set, sashimi katsu set, triple mixed katsu set, kimchi cheese nabe, mixed katsu set, pork jowl katsu set, loin katsu set, premium loin katsu set, tenderloin (hirekatsu) set, spicy tonkatsu set, sweet potato cheese katsu set, and cheese-loaded katsu set. Noodle options include cream pasta, garlic chipotle pasta, aglio e olio pasta, fish cake udon, kimchi fish cake udon, and icy cold soba. Rice bowl options include gyudon, tonkatsu curry rice bowl, and beef belly curry rice bowl — three choices. I also loved that you can add on a side order of 2 pieces of cheese-loaded katsu or 2 pieces of sweet potato cheese katsu to a set :)

Since we like to try a variety of katsu, we ordered two mixed katsu sets.

While waiting for the food, I looked around the store and noticed Jeongseong Katsu is also popular for delivery — they even had a shelf for holding delivery orders for riders to pick up! One order would disappear and immediately be replaced, which really showed how popular this place is, haha.

What comes with the Jeongseong mixed katsu set?
The mixed katsu set we'd been waiting for arrived ✨ The mixed katsu set lets you enjoy sirloin, tenderloin, and fried shrimp. Along with the katsu, you get cabbage salad, rice, miso-style soup, Japanese-style curry, kimchi, pickles, tonkatsu sauce, and separately, wasabi and salt too, making for a really filling meal 👍🏻

Even just from the photos, you can tell the tonkatsu at Jeongseong Katsu has that amazing crispy-outside, juicy-inside look 😋

How do the pork loin, tenderloin and fried shrimp taste?
Before diving into the tonkatsu, gotta keep a clear head and avoid a blood sugar spike!! So I ate the cabbage salad first, haha.
Eating the cabbage salad that comes with the set as an appetizer settled my stomach nicely.
Now, onto the main event — devouring the tonkatsu. I started with sirloin, my favorite cut.
Dipping the tonkatsu in the curry sauce was surprisingly delicious too?!
And the salt — no words needed,,, the tonkatsu at Jeongseong Katsu is so well-seasoned that it was delicious even plain..💗

The tenderloin was this juicy inside while staying crispy outside — I could eat endless amounts!
While eating the tonkatsu, I'd occasionally mix some rice into the curry — with so many ways to combine everything, the set composition was incredibly satisfying. Japanese-style curry included in the set at no extra charge — is that not the greatest blessing,,,
And once we finished off the fried shrimp too,

One full meal, done!!!
Self-serve side dishes and final verdict
If you run out of side dishes, you can get more from the self-serve corner, but the default amount given was just right :) The sirloin and tenderloin at Jeongseong Katsu were so delicious that I'm already planning a second, third, and fourth return visit to this great tonkatsu spot near Gangwon National University!
If you're looking for a great tonkatsu restaurant in Chuncheon, I strongly recommend visiting Jeongseong Katsu near Gangwon National University 🙌🏻
