Sokcho Korean restaurant, grilled nurungji squid sundae: Hwangbuja
In short
Hwangbuja Twigim is a Korean restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon, serving fried snacks and sundae. I took home its freshly grilled nurungji squid sundae and loved its well-seasoned, chewy yet tender texture; reheat it in a pan or air fryer for crispness. Verdict: a must-try Sokcho market snack.

Nurungji Squid Sundae I Took Home on My Sokcho Trip
While traveling in Sokcho, Gangwon-do with friends, I picked up nurungji squid sundae (squid stuffed sausage with scorched rice) from Hwangbuja Twigim (황부자튀김), a seriously legit spot in Sokcho Central Market!

Hwangbuja Twigim is inside Sokcho Central Market, so it is a great stop if you are browsing the market or looking for good food in Sokcho!

Fried Snacks and Sundae Menu
Hwangbuja Twigim in Sokcho Central Market had such a wide selection of fried snacks, sundae, and little bites: king prawns, snow crab meat, fried squid, baby crab, shrimp gangjeong, squid sundae, nurungji squid sundae, Abai sundae, and more!

The crispy-looking fried shrimp, beautifully golden fried squid with a crisp outside and tender center, and neatly fried snow crab meat all looked so delicious ,,♡

Hwangbuja Twigim is one of those fried-food specialists in Sokcho Central Market that gets seriously crowded, so the staff were frying and grilling nonstop! I could watch them cooking everything so appetizingly, and it was obvious they paid close attention to cleanliness, which made me feel good about eating there :)

Nurungji Squid Sundae Grilled to Order
We ordered the nurungji squid sundae! They grill it as soon as you order, so you get to eat it piping hot, which was so nice!

It is not just for takeout—you can also sit inside and have a cool meal there, just so you know! If you are looking for a light Sokcho date stop for a beer while traveling, or somewhere to go on a rainy day in Sokcho, I recommend coming to Sokcho Central Market for tasty fried snacks and a beer :)

How to Make It Crispy Again at Home
We were taking it home as a souvenir, so we got the nurungji squid sundae to go!

With takeout, they include chopsticks and soy sauce like this!

The nurungji squid sundae was grilled properly golden brown. If it has gone cold by the time you eat it at home, warming it in the microwave for about 40 seconds on the same day is just right—but the absolute best way is to grill both sides again in a pan! Reheating it in a pan makes it properly crispy, so I recommend a pan or an air fryer :)

Well-Seasoned, Chewy, and So Good
This beautifully grilled squid sundae was seriously soooo delicious ㅠ.ㅠ It makes my top three nurungji squid sundae spots that I have tried! It was seasoned perfectly, so I did not even need to dip it in soy sauce to enjoy the full flavor, and the texture was chewy but tender too—so, so good!

The squid pieces were a good size and not tough, which made it even better...🖤🖤🖤 Truly one of the best squid sundaes of my life haha. I have to go again 🖤🖤🖤 If you visit Sokcho Central Market while traveling in Gangwon-do or Sokcho, I absolutely recommend stopping by Hwangbuja Twigim for its insanely delicious nurungji squid sundae :)
