A neat Korean meal near Goyang IKEA

On a weekend evening, my husband and I were craving a comforting, neatly prepared Korean meal, so we visited Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa, a place that comes highly recommended near Goyang IKEA. It is close to both IKEA and Starfield Goyang, making it an ideal stop on a weekend shopping route.

Weekend evening visit to Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa

It is such a popular spot that the front of the restaurant was bustling when we arrived at peak time on a weekend evening. Still, the interior is spacious and tables turn over quickly, so after a short wait, we were seated right away.

A standalone building with easy parking

Parking is always one of my biggest concerns when driving out to eat, but Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa has a large dedicated lot right in front of the restaurant, so it was incredibly convenient with no parking worries. It also seemed easy enough for newer drivers or large groups arriving in more than one car.

The exterior was neat and elegant, with a warm wood-toned atmosphere that gave it the refined feel of a quality Korean set-menu restaurant. The well-kept standalone building made me feel, from the moment we arrived, that we had found a properly good restaurant.

A spacious interior for group gatherings

As soon as we stepped inside, we were welcomed by an open interior with high ceilings. There was plenty of space between tables, so people could move about without crossing paths, and conversations from neighboring tables did not feel distracting, making for a relaxed meal.

Along with the standard tables for four, there were well-arranged group tables where several people could sit together. It had the ideal setting for large family visits, work dinners, reunions, and other gatherings. High chairs and other conveniences were also thoughtfully provided, so it felt comfortable for everyone from young children to older adults.

Seasonal ingredients and self-service side dishes

The restaurant's biggest strength is its healthy full-table meals made with fresh seasonal ingredients that feel almost directly sourced from their regions of origin. Not only the mains but every neatly served banchan (Korean side dish) used seasonal greens and ingredients, bringing the season right to the table.

The basic side dishes were neither overly salty nor harshly seasoned, so I could really taste the fresh ingredients themselves. I was even happier that we could freely help ourselves to extra side dishes at the clean, well-maintained self-service bar.

A serving robot adds a little fun

One especially eye-catching detail was the cute serving robot that carefully delivered our ordered food right to the table. With the robot serving, the restaurant's pathways felt much less crowded and we received our food quickly.

That little bit of entertainment would make a meal here even more enjoyable with children or parents.

A full meal of grilled and braised mackerel with bulgogi

Here is what my husband and I ordered this time, along with the prices.

  • Grilled mackerel ₩16,000
  • Braised mackerel ₩18,000
  • Charcoal-grilled bulgogi ₩18,000

Grilled mackerel

It was golden and crisp outside as if it had been roasted in a brick oven, while the inside held plenty of savory juices and moisture, making it exceptionally tender. The flesh was thick enough to lift off in generous pieces with chopsticks, and there was absolutely no fishiness, so we finished every last bite. Lightly dipping it in wasabi soy sauce and placing it over hot, freshly cooked rice filled my mouth with rich flavor—it really made me sigh with appreciation.

Braised mackerel

The reduced, gently spicy sauce had soaked deeply into both the radish and the mackerel flesh, creating a deep yet clean flavor. Rather than artificial sweetness or aggressive heat, the sauce had a deep savory quality, so even mixing the sauce alone into rice made a wonderful dish. The soft radish, which practically melted in the mouth, was fantastic with the braised fish, and this was absolutely a rice-stealing dish.

Charcoal-grilled bulgogi

The moment it reached the table, its subtle, savory charcoal aroma tickled my nose and instantly built up my appetite. The meat was not tough at all but soft and tender, so I thought it would be easy for children and older adults with sensitive teeth to enjoy. Its sweet-savory marinade was not overpowering, making it a wonderful match alongside the fish dishes.

Putting freshly grilled fish over aromatic, newly cooked sotbap (rice cooked in an individual pot) made appreciation come naturally. None of the side dishes were overly seasoned or harsh, so my stomach felt comfortable even after the meal. The self-service system, where we could take as many extra side dishes as we wanted, was also impeccably maintained.

Why I want to return with my parents

“Next time, I really need to bring my parents here.”

That thought came out naturally throughout the meal. It has the healthy yet deeply flavored style of a neat sotbap set meal that my mother loves, so I would strongly recommend it as a restaurant to bring your parents to.

A sotbap meal well suited to enjoy with parents

If you are visiting with parents or older family members, I recommend making a reservation in advance. There can be a wait during weekend peak hours, but with a reservation, you can be shown comfortably to a quiet table without waiting.

As a Korean restaurant, it is already such a great place to visit with parents, and they apparently even pack up seasoned raw crab for guests dining with their parents, haha, so there seems to be no reason not to go. Depending on the restaurant's situation, they also offer considerate touches such as neatly tailored service or small commemorative benefits, which makes it an even better place to treat your parents~!

A meal after shopping at Goyang IKEA

When you visit Goyang IKEA, it is actually rare to find somewhere nearby that has all three: convenient parking, a spacious and pleasant dining room, and especially excellent fresh seasonal fish dishes.
