Sundae soup and hinoki steamed sides in Goyang: Gohyangok
In short
Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch is a sundae soup restaurant in Seongsa-dong, Goyang, Gyeonggi. I visited with my mom on a weekend morning for generously filled spicy soup, dried-radish-green sundae soup, and hinoki steamed sides. Verdict: a filling meal when you want gukbap with extra steamed dishes.

Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch hours and parking in Seongsa-dong
It is open 10:00–22:00 on weekdays and 05:30–22:00 on weekends, with reservations, takeaway, and parking available.

A weekend date after persuading Mom! We headed out Saturday morning to Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch (고향옥얼큰순대국 원당점), a local spot people rave about. As the weather got chilly, I was craving soup, so off we went ☺️
A varied menu, from sundae soup to hinoki steaming
Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk menu

There were not only many kinds of sundae soup—plain sundae soup, spicy sundae soup, and dried-radish-green sundae soup—but also dried pollack hangover soup, offal gukbap, boiled-pork gukbap, galbi dumplings, sundae, and bossam. The side dishes were seriously varied too! With the set promotion, you could order a hinoki-steamed sundae bossam set with your gukbap for less 🫶
- Spicy sundae soup (sundae bossam) ₩17,000
- Dried-radish-green sundae soup ₩11,000
- Hinoki assortment ₩7,000
- Total ₩35,000

Each table was generously set with salted shrimp, dadegi (spicy seasoning paste), perilla seed powder, and even disposable spoon rests!

Such a thoughtful paper spoon rest 🫶 With this, your spoon never touches the table, and the part that goes in your mouth does not have to touch a napkin either!

A bowl of rice, basic side dishes, and somyeon (thin wheat noodles) came out first. The noodles are for adding to the gukbap later!
How the spicy and dried-radish-green sundae soups tasted

The gukbap we had been waiting for arrived ❤️ It came absolutely magma-hot! And wow, there was seriously so much stuff in it;; Just as I hoped, the broth was spicy and warming, with a peppery kick. A place having customers from 5:30 on weekend mornings? I thought it must be pretty good—and yep, it did not disappoint 🤭

And the sundae was not even the usual glass-noodle kind—it was blood sausage packed full of filling.

The dried-radish-green sundae soup was not bland, but it was not as spicy as the spicy sundae soup, so it felt like it would sit easily on your stomach. I ordered it because I had never seen it before, and I was so satisfied after tasting it.
The hinoki sundae bossam set and hinoki assortment

The sundae bossam set that came with it was also such a filling combination, with plenty of mung bean sprouts, chives, sundae, and bossam in the hinoki steamer.

We also ordered the hinoki assortment as a side. It had two pieces each of bossam, buckwheat pancakes, galbi dumplings, and sundae. Want to sample everything, or think the gukbap might be just a little short? I totally recommend choosing this one 👊

You can also take as much water kimchi, ssamjang, chilies, onions, and more as you want from the self-service bar.

This was around 10 on Saturday morning? The place being this full at that hour is proof that it is a good restaurant, is what I am saying 🤭
Easy parking, even for a new driver

Because the restaurant is in its own building, parking was easy too! The spaces in front and beside it were huge ❤️ Even this beginner driver could do it so, so easily! I parked in front in 10 seconds. Next time, I am planning to come back with Dad so the three of us can visit!
