Namyangju pork belly with gim and pickled radish wraps: 2002 Witch's

In short

2002 Witch's Arpeggio is a tomato-jang pork belly restaurant with creekside outdoor seating in Wabu-eup, Namyangju, Gyeonggi. On a weekday half-day off, the order came to 70,000 won in total: tomato-jang pork belly for two at 40,000 won, the Witch's crispy-outside, chewy-inside potato pancake at 25,000 won and a 5,000-won cheese add-on, and of all the wrap combinations, gim (dried seaweed) with pickled radish was the favourite. The potato pancake filled everyone up, so the cauldron fried rice had to wait for next time — an unusual Namyangju date course.

First photo from the visit to 2002 Witch's Arpeggio in Namyangju

The weather's been perfect for a little outing lately, so I've been checking out places near Seoul worth visiting. This time I took a half-day off on a weekday and headed to a Namyangju restaurant I'd had my eye on — 2002 Witch's Arpeggio, famous on social media for its tomato-jang pork belly. Once I got there it actually felt like a mini trip, and I think it'd make a great Namyangju date course too, so let me introduce it.

Where is 2002 Witch's Arpeggio and when is it open?

2002 Witch's Arpeggio is at 142 Suryero661beon-gil, Wabu-eup, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open 11:00-21:00, with a break time from 15:30-17:00 and last order at 20:00.

It's about 30 minutes by car from Namyangju Haevichi CC, Vision Hills CC, and Deokso Station, though you do have to drive a bit further inland.

Is there parking at 2002 Witch's Arpeggio?

There's a private lot at 2002 Witch's Arpeggio, which makes things convenient. With 3 parking spaces, you shouldn't have to worry about finding a spot.

Creekside outdoor seats and the spacious dining room

The outdoor seating has plenty of room, so it's not a chaotic vibe for a date, and the tables are wide enough to comfortably fit a group as well.

Looking down right next to the outdoor seats, you can see a stream flowing by — just watching it feels healing.

There's also ample seating inside, so it looks like a good spot to grill meat somewhere warm through the coming fall and winter too.

Tomato-jang aging in a corner of the restaurant

In one corner of the restaurant, tomato-jang was aging — and it contains zero gochujang (red chili paste). Doesn't that make you curious about the taste?

Guide showing the best order for eating the tomato-jang pork belly

I liked that Arpeggio, this Namyangju pork belly spot, laid out a detailed order for eating it the tastiest way. Personally, step 4 — gim (dried seaweed) and pickled radish — was my favorite.

The side dishes, including tomato kimchi

The basic side dishes at 2002 Witch's Arpeggio are japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), jeonbyeong (rice crepe), pickled radish, tomato kimchi, perilla oil-soy sauce, ssamjang, and lettuce wraps. The lettuce wraps were nice and fresh and green.

Fresh lettuce wraps and basic side dishes spread on the table

This was my first time trying tomato kimchi, and it was surprising — it tasted like spicy kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi). But with tomato flesh instead of radish, it felt fresher and cleaner, and it was delicious.

Among the side dishes, japchae and jeonbyeong need to be requested separately; the rest are self-serve refills.

The japchae comes out warm too, and eating it together with the tomato kimchi hit just the right seasoning.

Next up, the crispy-outside chewy-inside potato pancake — the outside was really crisped up like it had been fried. You could taste that signature edge flavor of a potato pancake throughout the whole thing, which was completely my type.

How does the tomato-jang pork belly for two taste?

Next was today's main dish, the tomato-jang pork belly. Even as a serving for two, it came out generously portioned, and it was convenient that the staff grilled and cut it all for us.

Before adding cheese, they gave us each a piece of the grilled pork belly to try first. I was curious whether the tangy tomato flavor would pair with the pork belly — it turned out less tangy and more clean, not heavy at all.

The cheese we added was only put on half, so we got to enjoy half plain and half as cheese pork belly.

Wrapping pork belly and scallion strips in jeonbyeong

Eating in order: jeonbyeong wraps first

According to the eating order at Arpeggio, this Namyangju pork belly spot, the first step is to wrap it in jeonbyeong, so I tried it. Wrapping the chewy jeonbyeong around the pork belly and scallion strips was hearty and satisfying.

Pork belly placed on unseasoned gim

The best combination: gim and pickled radish

This was my favorite combination — gim (dried seaweed) and pickled radish. The gim is unseasoned, so it's plain, and combined with the tangy pickled radish and the meat, the savory flavor really came through even more.

The meat was clean and tender with no gamey smell, so it's good for kids and adults to enjoy together. Since it's seasoned pork belly that isn't heavy, your stomach still feels clean afterward — that's the advantage. We'd ordered pork belly for two, but eating it with the potato pancake filled us up so much we couldn't get to the fried rice. I was looking forward to the stone-pot fried rice, so I'll definitely have to try it next time.

If you're looking for an unusual Namyangju date course instead of your typical Korean BBQ spot among Namyangju restaurants, I recommend visiting 2002 Witch's Arpeggio.
