Suwon Korean beef BBQ with a hot grill and resting stone: Sogogi Twist

Today I'm sharing a review of Sogogi Twist Yeongtong District Office Branch (소고기트위스트 영통구청점), a beef BBQ restaurant near Yeongtong District Office. You can get good-quality beef at a more reasonable price than you'd expect, so it's a great place to visit with family!

Sogogi Twist Yeongtong District Office Branch: hours and parking

Sogogi Twist Yeongtong District Office Branch is open daily from 15:00 to 24:00, and you can park in the basement, with 1 hour 30 minutes covered, I was told. It's on the first floor of the central shopping block near Yeongtong District Office!

Parking isn't easy in this neighborhood, but there's a big parking area in the basement, so we parked comfortably and came up to the first floor.

A clean interior with no BBQ smell

The restaurant opened recently, so the interior is very clean. Usually when you walk into a BBQ place you get hit with the smell of meat smoke, but maybe because it's so new, there was zero BBQ smell, and the clean interior put me in a good mood from the moment I walked in haha

Sogogi Twist menu: what should you order?

At Sogogi Twist Yeongtong District Office Branch, the price gap between the prime-grade beef platters and the pork isn't big, so we ordered the 1kg beef platter. In that case you obviously go with beef, right? haha The 1kg platter of shrimp cut (saewoosal), chuck flap and jebichuri looked good, so we chose it.

Honestly I don't know my beef cuts well, so having several different cuts in one platter let us try a bit of everything haha Overall the prices are kind for beef, and there are also Hyeja and couple sets, so if you can't decide what to eat, ordering a set menu seems like a good option.

1kg platter (flower shrimp cut + chuck flap + jebichuri) and the table setting

The 1kg platter (flower shrimp cut + chuck flap + jebichuri) was listed on the menu as (88.0). When we ordered the 1kg platter, we got scallion salad, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), myeongi namul (pickled wild greens), pickled onions, young radish kimchi and mustard sauce. Honestly the meat itself was so good that we barely touched the side dishes lol Just a piece of myeongi namul or pickled onion now and then?

The beef platter served on dry ice

A little later, the neatly trimmed beef platter arrived. They'd laid dry ice underneath, so we could enjoy fresh beef right to the end!

They grill the flower shrimp cut, chuck flap and jebichuri one cut at a time. At first the price was better than I expected, so I wondered if the beef quality might be so-so, but the beef looked fresh and a decent thickness, so my expectations went up..

Is the hot grill easy to cook on?

The heat at Sogogi Twist Yeongtong District Office Branch is stronger than I expected, so the beef quickly seals in its juices as it cooks. Because the fire is so strong, the juices don't leak out and the meat cooks fast to a good doneness, which I liked.

Flower shrimp cut, chuck flap and jebichuri: how does each cut taste?

Flower shrimp cut: the most tender and juicy

After searing the beef quickly, we ate the shrimp cut first. Of jebichuri, chuck flap and shrimp cut, the shrimp cut felt the most tender and juicy! The beef itself is so good that even with no side dishes, just a little salt or mustard sauce, it's amazing!

Chuck flap: mild but not dry, my favorite cut

Next up was the chuck flap. It's definitely milder than the shrimp cut, but not dry at all, so I liked the chuck flap better! Dipped lightly in mustard sauce, it was the best.

Can you see how the juices are packed into the meat, probably thanks to the strong flame? The beef stayed super juicy and tender to the very end. Even someone who can't grill beef well will be carried by this grill lol

Keep grilled meat on the stone beside the grill

We piled the grilled beef neatly on one small side grill and put the next cut on. Beef can get a bit chewy if you cook it too long, but there's a separate spot to rest it on a warm stone beside the grill, so you can enjoy the beef warm and at your preferred doneness until the end!

Jebichuri: chewy, best with onion

Jebichuri is the cut I'd recommend if you want a chewy, mild texture. It was the thinnest of the three, but you can really feel the texture, and it tasted best with crunchy onion!

The second round of grilling was a success too. A staff member kept an eye on the fire so it didn't weaken partway through and wiped the grill from time to time, so we could enjoy high-quality meat to the end.

How was the free 200g of opening-event brisket?

When we visited, Sogogi Twist Yeongtong District Office Branch was running an opening event giving 200g of brisket, so we got brisket as a freebie! I figured it'd be just so-so since it was a freebie, and grilled it up, but

Whoa.. it's sliced thin but has just the right amount of fat, and it perfectly filled that slightly-wanting-more feeling at the end lol

They say meat means fat, and sure enough, eating a fatty cut at the end finishes the meal feeling really full. We left very satisfied, brisket included.
