Kalguksu restaurant in Suwon: noodles, bossam, rice ₩9,000 – Gogo

In short

Gogo Kalguksu (고고칼국수) is a single-menu Korean restaurant in Maetan-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, serving kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) with bossam (boiled pork wraps) and rice for ₩9,000. Two diners ordered one set each, sharing one plate of bossam, with noodle refills and rice both free and banchan self-served. The anchovy broth was clean and the bossam was moist rather than dry — great value, but the shop closes at 3pm, so check the hours before you go.

Location & parking

Gogo Kalguksu is located in Maetan-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon. You can park on the roadside right in front of the shop — on weekdays until 2pm, no restriction on weekends, but note there aren't many spots!

What's the vibe outside?

The exterior of Gogo Kalguksu had a clean, comfortable feel, making it an easy place to walk into without any pressure,

Promotional banner set up in front of the shop

Right in front of the shop were several banners featuring delicious-looking food that matched the vibe of the place, and the one that really stood out was a banner with what looked like the owner's face on it! You know a restaurant that puts its face on the line is always a good one, haha. It looked like a great spot to go in for a clean, simple meal :)

Interior and seating

Walking inside, I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious and pleasant it was! The tables were spaced generously so we could eat comfortably without feeling cramped, and everything was tidy overall — it seemed like a good spot for families or larger groups too. Thanks to the roomy space, we got to enjoy a relaxed meal at Gogo Kalguksu :)

Besides the regular tables, there were also seats that looked comfortable to lean back into, so you could sit in a relaxed spot to eat too, hehe

The chopsticks, napkins, paper cups and pepper were all neatly arranged on the table. What really made me feel the owner cares about cleanliness was that there wasn't a single water stain on the spoons, and the paper cups were hygienic! That made me trust the place even more, haha.

Kalguksu + bossam + rice, ₩9,000 — the only menu item

On the wall of the restaurant was information about the shop — and honestly, is this even possible these days? Kalguksu + bossam + rice for ₩9,000..

And even the noodle refill is free... My goodness..!! Owner, are you even making a profit..? By the way, there's literally only one item on the menu!! A place betting everything on a single dish — I couldn't wait to see how good it would be, haha.

Gogo Kalguksu boils fresh bossam (boiled pork) every day, and even makes its own geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi) in-house. Total real-restaurant energy.. The geotjeori had a bit of a spicy kick!

I love a cool, refreshing anchovy broth 😋

Banchan and rice are self-serve

You can grab banchan (side dishes) yourself from the self-serve bar,

and next to the banchan there's a rice cooker where you can scoop as much free rice as you'd like!!

We ordered two sets for two people — how did it taste?

The single-item set of kalguksu, bossam and rice

There were two of us, so we ordered two sets! We each got a bowl of kalguksu, and the bossam came out as one shared plate, haha.

A bowl of kalguksu full of noodles

The kalguksu is based on an anchovy broth, so from the first spoonful it tasted clean and light!! The anchovy aroma wasn't overpowering, and it felt warm yet refreshing at the same time, so I kept reaching for more broth.. We both sat there quietly slurping up the soup, ha ha ha..

The noodles were soft yet chewy, and paired with the light anchovy broth, the whole bowl disappeared fast, haha. Oh, and this was without even adding extra noodles — that's how much there already was!! If you want a noodle refill, it's free, just so you know!! Owner, are you really making any money off this..😥

The bossam pork was clearly boiled thoroughly by the owner, because it was soft and moist, not dry at all,

and it was especially delicious eaten together with the bossam kimchi! The spicy-sweet, savory flavor of the kimchi balanced out the mild taste of the pork perfectly, making me want more, haha.

Honestly, I'd think ₩9,000 was cheap for the kalguksu alone, but to throw in bossam too.. Truly grateful..

Since the rice was free like I mentioned earlier, I grabbed some to mix into the kalguksu broth, haha

I mixed it all in properly and ate it up — the broth itself was so tasty that even though I was already full, I still finished it all and felt satisfied 😌 Koreans really do need their rice..

Bokbunja liquor given for a receipt review

Lastly, the owner mentioned that writing a receipt review gets you a bottle of bokbunja (black raspberry) liquor, so I did it right away, and I didn't expect them to give such a big bottle, haha.. Such a generous gift..!! It really felt like we walked away with a lot — full stomach, and a fuller wallet too, haha.

Things to know before you visit

It's been a while since I found such a great-value spot like this! Usually cheap means the taste suffers, but here the flavor is guaranteed too — if this were near my office I'd probably go all the time :) Just note that Gogo Kalguksu closes at 15:00, so plan your visit accordingly 😗 All the good places close early it seems.. Highly, highly recommend for the value!!!
