Nowon sushi buffet Sunday lunch with parents: dongpo pork, Kuu Kuu

Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch is a sushi buffet on the 6th floor of a building near Hagye Station in Nowon, Seoul. After months of craving sushi, the writer went to Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch for Sunday lunch with their parents, and the parents ended up enjoying it even more: Dad stuck to sushi and sashimi, while Mom went for dongpo pork (braised pork belly) and sweet potato donuts. Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch is a solid pick for a Nowon family gathering, where everyone can choose what they like without debating the menu.

Hidden Chungmuro craft beer pub with Kölsch and baked brie: Boah Boah

Boah Boah (브아브아) is a craft beer pub tucked down an alley beneath Chungmu Building, right by Chungmuro Station Exit 7 in Jung-gu, Seoul, serving katsu at lunch and running as a casual pub in the evening. The writer visited Boah Boah in the evening with a friend, shared the A-set sampler and baked brie, and would pick Dotjari Kölsch as the one beer to order without food. Boah Boah suits office workers and couples who want a calmer craft beer night in Chungmuro than in Euljiro, with room to talk.

Euljiro rooftop bar for comparing four highballs: Another Level

Another Level (어나더레벨) is a rooftop Korean-style pub on the 4th floor of a building near Euljiro 3-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a visit with a friend back in Korea after a long time abroad, the writer sat at an open-air rooftop table and shared four highballs, Suntory, Bombay, Earl Grey and tequila, with a side of gambas. The food and drinks at Another Level were good, but the wide-open rooftop view between downtown buildings was the most memorable part.

Eulwangni seafood restaurant, 3-person set for 3 friends: 300°C

300°C Seafood Galbi Main Branch is a seafood and pork rib stew (haemul deunggalbi-jjim) restaurant on Masiran-ro in Jung-gu, Incheon, near Eulwangni Beach and Inspire. Three friends ordered the 3-person Seafood Rib Stew Set (seafood rib stew, seafood pajeon savory pancake and clear seafood kalguksu noodle soup) at mild spice; with 3 abalone in the stew, a half-cheese pajeon and the kalguksu, the portions were so generous that they skipped the fried rice and took the leftovers home. For a group that wants plenty of different dishes in one meal, the 3-person set at 300°C Seafood Galbi Main Branch is a satisfying choice.

Uijeongbu pork cutlet house for kids with different tastes: Yangchonri

Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch (양촌리돈가스 민락점) is a pork cutlet and rice bowl restaurant on the 2nd floor of a shopping arcade on Omok-ro in Millak-dong, Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. With two kids who wanted different dishes, the family ordered a 2-person set (Yangchonri pork cutlet, jjukkumi (spicy baby octopus) rice bowl and grandma's udon) and a 1-person set (fire-grilled pork belly jeyuk rice bowl and mini udon), so everyone ate what they liked. Verdict: with a self-serve bar for side dishes and soup, Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch suits a family meal as well as an evening somaek (soju and beer).

Meokgol Station lunch: gamjatang for three with fried rice at Wanttuk

Wanttuk Gamjatang Meokgol Main Branch is a gamjatang (pork bone stew) restaurant in Mukdong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, between Meokgol and Taereung Ipgu stations. The broth at Wanttuk Gamjatang was savory rather than salty and the portion was big enough that the leftovers went home in a takeout box.
