A place where homemade wheat bread meets specialty coffee — a new brunch café behind Gwanak Elementary in Dongpyeon-maeul 𖤐

Notten, the Dongpyeon-maeul brunch café that opens at 9am
Notten is a brunch café in Dongpyeon-maeul, Anyang, that opens every day at 9am. My husband and I dropped our kid off at daycare on a weekday and finally had a relaxed café date together. There were so many healthy-looking menu items that I went in with high expectations, and the fact that it opens at 9am was an added bonus. Most brunch cafés don't open that early, so being able to go in the morning was even better.

- A few parking spots available behind the store
Finding Notten: the building and where to park

Notten sits inside Dongpyeon-maeul's café street, behind Gwanak Elementary. A wide lawn stretches out in front of the store, so I felt good just walking up to it 𖤐 Parking is limited to a few spots behind the shop, which seems to be the norm for cafés around here. There's also a public underground parking lot nearby in Dongpyeon-maeul.
Inside Notten: lawn views through the big windows, plus a baby high chair
Maybe because it's newly opened, everything inside was brand new and spotless.

Green lawn stretches out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, and they apparently run terrace seating on nice days. There's a baby chair too, so it looked like a good spot to bring kids.

The open, clean-cut interior was very likeable.
Notten's menu: Korean-wheat bakery and specialty coffee beans

Their signature is baking everything fresh daily with 100% domestic wheat and rye. They say most of the brunch, bakery, and dessert items are made in-house. For coffee, they use beans from Korean specialty roasteries like Lowkey, Momos Coffee, Pascal Coffee Works, and Signature Roasters, and you can choose your espresso from three options: acidic, nutty, or decaf.
We ordered an iced americano, an iced latte, the tomato Greek yogurt bowl, and the seasonal campagne French toast.

Americano 5,000 won: bright and acidic or nutty?
Notten's americano is ₩5,000 and the café latte is ₩6,000. You can choose between two bean profiles — acidic and nutty — and my husband went nutty while I went acidic.

Since they use well-known beans, both the aroma and taste were really good. Even though I'm pretty picky about coffee, this was genuinely delicious. The rich flavor and aroma really came through ⋰˚ It kicked off a lovely day off on the right note.

What's in Notten's tomato Greek yogurt bowl, 11,000 won
Notten's tomato Greek yogurt bowl is ₩11,000. I eat Greek yogurt often, and this one was good enough that I want to try recreating it at home. The tomatoes were peeled and marinated, giving them a fresh, satisfying texture — it was tomato, but it almost tasted like Shine Muscat grapes.

A generous drizzle of organic olive oil added even more depth of flavor 🖤

Seasonal campagne French toast 10,000 won, with syrup on the side
Notten's seasonal campagne (a type of rustic French bread) French toast is ₩10,000. The thickness stood out right away, and I was surprised it came as two whole pieces. Isn't that price a bit too generous..! I'm not really a fan of sweet things, so I asked for the syrup on the side, and they happily obliged, which I appreciated.

Once cut open, it was crispy outside and soft inside through and through, and the corn kernels studded through the bread gave it fun texture and even more flavor.

Being extra thick made it even more delicious, and using campagne instead of regular sandwich bread made the French toast feel more special! The delicious coffee and the handmade-bread brunch came together so well that I was in awe with every bite.
Is Notten worth a weekday morning visit?
The food and coffee were delicious, the atmosphere was nice, but what made me happiest was the friendly service above all. I got the feeling this place will do well for a long time, and I want to come back soon ✩ If you're looking for a brunch spot in Dongpyeon-maeul, I'd recommend this one.
