Gwacheon specialty coffee café with Fazenda Um beans: Minimale
In short
Minimale Coffee Roaster Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Branch is a roastery bakery café on the ground floor of an office building in the Knowledge Information Town district of Gwacheon, Gyeonggi. An afternoon visit meant some of the popular breads had already sold out, but an Americano, a Helsinki Latte, the original babka and a Portuguese egg tart still made for an unhurried break. Avoid the morning commute and the hour right after lunch and Minimale is quiet enough to enjoy specialty coffee and bakery properly.

Where to get good coffee in Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town: Minimale
These days Gwacheon, a great spot just outside Seoul, is buzzing thanks to the newly developed Jijeongta (Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town) area. With so many IT companies moving in, plenty of cafés and restaurants for good Gwacheon dessert and coffee have opened up too. Today I'm introducing Minimale Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Branch — already a known name in Seoul, so I could visit with confidence.

Minimale parking and opening hours
This Gwacheon bakery café sits on the ground floor of its building, with an underground parking lot available. Parking is free for up to 3 hours, every day of the week, regardless of weekday or weekend. Just enter your license plate number on the tablet at the counter.

Specialty coffee roasted in-house from Fazenda Um green beans
Minimale Gwacheon is often ranked among the best-tasting coffee cafés in Gwacheon, serving specialty coffee roasted in-house. It's extra special because they roast beans from the farm of 2023 World Barista Champion, Hacienda La Esmeralda. The interior has a mid-century modern, minimalist mood with plenty of trendy appeal. Because there are so many office workers nearby, it gets crowded around commute hours and right after lunch, but the rest of the time it's generally quiet — a good chance to enjoy coffee and bakery items at leisure.

How to order at Minimale and what to try
Orders are placed via kiosk, and bakery items can be freely picked up from the display case and paid for separately. Minimale's signature coffee recommendation is the Helsinki Latte. The British Einspänner is also recommended. They also sell specialty cold brew, tea, juice and more, so it's a good spot for families with kids too. The comfortable table seating is another plus, and the cool windows looking out onto the street keep it from feeling cramped.

Afternoon visit: some popular breads already sold out
True to a Gwacheon bakery café, the bakery lineup is varied — but since I visited in the afternoon, some of the popular breads had already sold out, which was a bit disappointing. Still, I quickly grabbed a few tempting-looking breads and ordered.

Minimale's New York cookies are famous too
As befits a Gwacheon dessert café, the cookies are famous here too. In particular, the New York cookies are baked in the style of New York's Levain Bakery — American-style cookies, with the original Levain, white macadamia and s'more flavors being the most popular.
I ordered an Americano, a Helsinki Latte, and the original babka along with a Portuguese egg tart for dessert.

How does the Helsinki Latte taste?
In the photo above, the one on the right is the Helsinki Latte. Apparently it's a special coffee recreated in Korea after the best latte the maker ever tasted, by chance, at a café in Helsinki. It was nutty without any bitterness, with a creamy texture that made for a smooth, gentle latte.

Portuguese egg tart and original babka
I really love egg tarts. Whenever I spot one at a bakery café, I make a point of trying at least one. I like the balance of crispy and soft textures, and the bite-sized portion suits my taste perfectly. This one is the Portuguese egg tart. Alongside it, I ordered the original babka, filled with rich Nutella chocolate and topped with almonds — reportedly the best-selling babka in Europe.

Would I go back to Minimale?
That day felt like discovering a hidden Gwacheon café in the Jijeongta area I hadn't visited in a while — a special day. Honestly, there are several cafés nearby, including a Starbucks, but none quite match this place. With its modern, minimalist mood plus great coffee and bakery items, I think I'll be coming back often.
