Sasang izakaya hotpot and charcoal skewers in Busan: Samajama Sasang

In short

Samajama Sasang is a handmade-skewer izakaya between exits 4 and 6 of Sasang Station in Busan. After months of ordering delivery, the writer finally visited in person for the house Samajama nabe (hotpot), a Suntory highball and chicken thigh roll, hangjeongsal (pork jowl) and tosisal (pork skirt) skewers, and rated the pork belly rice cake rolls in the nabe and the binchotan charcoal smokiness the highlights. With a free skewer for guests who reserve, Samajama Sasang is an easy spot for two people to settle in for a long evening.

Today I want to talk about my visit to 'Samajama,' an izakaya near Sasang Station 🍶 I used to order delivery from here often, but this time I finally went in person.

What are the mood and seating like at Samajama Sasang?

Samajama Sasang sits between exits 4 and 6 of Sasang Station, with about 8 tables plus a separate bar area. The interior was clean and softly lit, giving off a relaxed atmosphere perfect for lingering haha.

There are about 8 tables plus separate bar seats, and the table chairs even had space to hang your bag — such a nice detail!

Samajama specializes in handmade skewers made and used up the same day, so I felt like I could trust the freshness of the ingredients.

Ordering was done right at the table via kiosk, and below the kiosk there was a shichimi shaker, napkins, and a bin for used skewer sticks, so you didn't have to stack them up after eating — very convenient^^

For first-time visitors, there was even a wall poster with recommended combinations to try.

Once you order, they set up side dishes (pickled radish, green peas), small plates, utensils, and sauce.

Ordered Suntory highball with basic table setup

We ordered the Samajama nabe (hotpot) and a Suntory highball, plus skewers of chicken thigh tendon, hangjeongsal (pork jowl), and tosisal (pork skirt)!

Book a table and get one free skewer

Samajama Sasang gives reservation guests one free skewer. They swapped ours for the tosisal haha.

There's also a happy hour and a review event, so if you search on Naver before visiting, you can enjoy the place even more 😋

Tasting the Samajama nabe hotpot and Suntory highball

The highball was stronger than at other places, so if you know your preferences well, you'll probably like it. We loved it 👍👍

A strong glass of Suntory highball

I usually just order skewers, but this was my first time trying the nabe. Samajama's special tomato sauce comes with seafood, shrimp, samgyeop-tteok (pork belly rice cake roll), yeomtong (heart), and beehive sausage skewers inside, plus 6 slices of baguette on the side.

Putting the tomato sauce and shrimp on top of the baguette was seriously delicious 🥖

Especially the samgyeop-tteok roll — the meat fat and rice cake went so well together that after one bite I told my partner to try it right away lol

Skewers grilled over binchotan charcoal

One bite of the skewers and I could taste a subtle smoky char

Once your order comes in, they grill it over top-grade binchotan charcoal haha

I thought the aroma was unusually good, and once I saw the sign in the store I understood why 😚

Generous spread of Samajama skewers on the table

The portions were generous and the staff were friendly, so we lost track of time enjoying ourselves haha

Table at Samajama after finishing the meal

I'd only ever ordered delivery before, but visiting in person showed me the atmosphere and service are both great — I want to come back with friends next time.

With the holiday just starting today, this would also be a great spot to spend good times with family and friends! Happy Chuseok 🌝💛
