In short

Sasang Paldo Jokbal is a jokbal (Korean braised pig's trotters) restaurant on Baekyang-daero in Deokpo-dong, Sasang-gu, Busan, open from 4pm to midnight. Arriving around 10pm after calling ahead to have a table set, the writer ordered the half-and-half large at 35,000 won with makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) and self-serve rice balls, with the fire jokbal at the spiciest level. Groups were still eating late into the night, so Sasang Paldo Jokbal works well for gatherings near Silla University.

Half-and-half jokbal (large, 35,000 won): portion size and taste

The large half-and-half jokbal is ₩35,000 and the portion was really huge .!!! Glossy warm jokbal you can tell is fresh at a glance, plus fire jokbal that's exactly to spice-lovers' taste — if you can't decide what to eat, the half-and-half is perfect ♡

Fire jokbal topped with spicy sauce

Can you choose the spice level of the fire jokbal?

I liked that the fire jokbal at Sasang Paldo Jokbal lets you adjust the spice level. Since I really love spicy food, I ordered the spiciest! Fully packed with fiery flavor in the spicy sauce — Sasang Paldo Jokbal is also famous for its fire jokbal, so definitely give it a try.

Even at the spiciest level, my husband, who's not great with spicy food, ate it happily. It's not just spicy — the sauce is deliciously spicy in a way that keeps you reaching for more! ♡ ♡

Warm jokbal sliced to a moderate thickness

Warm jokbal at Sasang Paldo Jokbal: thickness and texture

The warm jokbal's thickness was exactly my style •• Not too thin, not too thick, just right. No gamy smell, and it's moist and tender, so it's delicious even on its own!

Cross-section of jokbal showing skin and meat

The chewy skin and tender meat come together in a golden ratio that's absolutely delicious. Add a bit of salted shrimp and dip it in the onion sauce, and the savory flavor comes alive even more. Chewy + moist = the textbook definition of a great jokbal ♥

Sides at Sasang Paldo Jokbal: self-serve rice balls and makguksu

We also ordered the self-serve rice balls (₩3,000), a perfect match for the fire jokbal. The rice was generously topped with seaweed flakes, with plenty of pickled radish mixed in too. It's savory and salty enough to eat on its own, but even better topped with a piece of spicy fire jokbal ...

A bowl of makguksu topped with plenty of vegetables
Makguksu (₩4,000)

You can't skip the jokbal-and-makguksu combo either •• It comes with a tangy-sweet sauce and plenty of vegetables. Makguksu is a must-have side when eating jokbal! 💨💨 Overall, the side dishes were good value too.
