Gijang, Busan snow crab restaurant with private rooms: 1,852g for two

In short

Gijang Myeongpum Daegae is a snow crab and king crab restaurant at the Gijang Market crossroads in Gijang, Busan. Visiting as a couple, the writer paid 140,000 won for a crab weighing 1,852g net after the 646g basket was subtracted, and added a free abalone, the 5,000-won-per-person self-serve bar, and crab-shell fried rice with doenjang stew (soybean paste stew). Honest weighing and crab packed full of meat make Gijang Myeongpum Daegae a place the writer wants to bring her parents to next.

If you love snow crab, listen up! This is a place my husband and I ate at on a trip to Gijang. They weigh the crab minus the basket weight and sell it honestly — plus the meat-to-shell ratio was great and the taste was really satisfying. I want to recommend this spot as a Gijang Market crab restaurant, so let's get into it 👐

Where is Gijang Myeongpum Daegae, and where do you park?

View of the crab restaurant crossroads in Gijang Market

Gijang Myeongpum Daegae is at 5 Chaseongdong-ro 73beon-gil, Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan, at the crossroads inside Gijang Market where all the crab restaurants cluster together. If you see the big white building across from Gijang Daegae and Daegae House, you've found it.

You can park at the Gijang Market public parking lot or the spacious lot behind Ssangdung Hoetjip. They even cover the parking fee, which made driving here convenient.

Gijang snow crab prices and weighing: 1,852g after the 646g basket

Gijang Myeongpum Daegae prices its crab by that day's market rate. The crab we picked came to 1,852g after subtracting the 646g basket weight, priced at ₩140,000. If the basket weight had been included, it would've come out to 2,484g — a difference of a whole ₩50,000 in the total price! Seeing them sell this honestly made me trust them even more.

As soon as we walked in, the tank caught my eye — clean and well-kept. The owner came over kindly right away to show us the snow crab and king crab, and after some deliberating we went with snow crab.

They scooped it right out in front of us, and it looked big and fresh at a glance, which got us excited 👀✨

Inside Gijang Myeongpum Daegae: private rooms and group seating

Given how big the building is, Gijang Myeongpum Daegae has plenty of dining space too. It's split across the 1st and 2nd floors, and there are private rooms available, which made for comfortable dining.

Rooms fit a minimum of 4 up to a maximum of 8 people, group seating fits a minimum of 10 up to 80 people, and full venue rental can accommodate up to 150 — perfect for family meals, tour group gatherings, or company dinners.

What's on the self-serve bar for 5,000 won per person?

Gijang Myeongpum Daegae has no separate table setting fee — just the self-serve bar charge. Adults and kids are both set at the same ₩5,000 per person.

The self-serve bar has a wide range of dishes ready to help yourself to — steamed corn, yusanseul (stir-fried meat and vegetables), fried items, fried chicken, fusilli, kimchi, pickles, jangajji (pickled vegetables), jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles), gosiraegi (seaweed), and various salads.

Personally I loved the fried chicken — crispy outside, juicy and moist inside, full of flavor.

A 140,000-won snow crab: how was the free abalone and the meat?

They threw in abalone as a service. I tried the abalone first — it had a soft bite while still being nice and springy.

The crab shell, full of rich guts, along with the legs and claws, were all trimmed for easy eating, so we could enjoy it without any hassle.

What surprised me was how packed with meat it was — the yield was really impressive. Having so much meat inside made it even more satisfying to eat~

Every bite brought out the crab's distinctive sweetness with just the right amount of savory saltiness, and I couldn't stop reaching for more. They had chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) and mustard ready, but the crab itself was so good that eating it plain, in its natural flavor, was the best way.

Shell full of rich guts alongside crab meat

Once we'd made decent progress through the legs of the Gijang Myeongpum Daegae crab, it was time to move on to the shell.

The inside was packed with guts, and the rich flavor was insane — pairing it with the tender, soft, moist crab meat was... honestly words weren't necessary 👍

Even full, you have to finish with the crab-shell fried rice and doenjang stew (soybean paste stew). The stew had crab in it too, giving it a refreshing yet savory flavor.

The fried rice wasn't heavily seasoned — light and clean-tasting, which paired well with the doenjang stew. Thanks to that, we ate a satisfying, delicious meal from start to finish.

Is Gijang Myeongpum Daegae worth going back to?

Final spread at the end of the meal at Gijang Myeongpum Daegae

Seeing the live crab shown to us in person, and having it calculated by net weight — minus the basket weight — according to the day's Gijang crab market price, built even more trust. Both the yield and the taste were satisfying, so I found myself wanting to bring my parents here for a family meal next time. If you're looking for a great crab restaurant in Gijang, how about Gijang Myeongpum Daegae ❤
